Excellent teacher

Professor Neely is a nice guy and very helpful. He is very concerned about his students and offers good advice. He makes what is sometimes a boring subject, interesting.

Nice guy, tough lectures

Professor Neely is a really nice guy and he truly cares about the student's progress in the class. However, he is still a bit too green to be very effective. I think that in a few years, as he learns the ropes a bit more, he will become a better lecturer. It's not that he is a bad teacher--after all, he challenges you to the Nth degree with his exams which were more difficult than many expected and hefty projects. It is simply that his lecture/speaking/communication skills are lacking. If you have the choice, opt for another professor just because it will make it easier on you. However, if he is the only professor teaching, just take it all in stride. Go to as many office hours as you can to make it easier on yourself. Talk with other students--you'll wind up making it a lot easier with the help/support of others.

nice guy--bad teacher

GAH! Dont take this class once a week with Neely!!! Dont do it! Sure, he is a nice guy, but the class is excruciating to sit through. I like government, but this guy gives TERRIBLE lectures. No structure, no direction. He once spent an hour and a half on an "aside". Criminy. The tests turned out to be okay--multiple choice. And the essay, though I was stressed out about it, was graded really easy. I think much of it had to do with the fact that its a college government class, and there was a lot of "I dont think we should have government" and "We are all souls, man...souls born with love". And who really cares what a bunch of uneducated fresh-out-of-high school kids think about how we should run the country? Not I. Take this teacher at your own risk.

Easy to pass

Neely is a really nice guy, his class is designed well and fairly easy to pass, but it can be painful to go to. The lectures are something akin to pulling teeth. He does not inspire the class to participate. You can tell his heart is in the right place and that means A LOT, but he has not been teaching long enough to be really effective. If you're just taking this class to take care of your poly sci GE, Neely's he's perfect. If you're really interested in poly sci, take Prof. Tabb.
