Good teacher, good class

Nussbaum had the luxury of teaching an interesting class. He's a good teacher who conveys his ideas well, sometimes too well. What I mean is that he tended to overemphasize a point. I guess this is better than underemphasizing a point, but I often found myself waiting and waiting for him to move on to the next topic. The books Nussbaum uses are pretty dated, though they suffice to cover generalities. Keep up with the reading and don't miss class too often and you should be fine in his class.

Abort mission....Abort!!!!!

When you walk into a gender class you expect to be around a some what open minded teacher. I'm sure he's a nice guy but he comes across as uninterested and is often times vague. His tests are all multiple choice and are based on books and his out-dated, shallow, meaningless, pointless reader. I used to be a women's studies major and I have read more books on this subject. He doesn't like questions and usually answers them with "We'll get to that" and trust me you will never get to that. My final was two days ago and I am glad it ended because I have never been so bored in my life.

pretty cool guy

Dr. Nussbaum was a pretty great teacher... and even though i took his class for GE, it really turned me on to the study of sociology. his lectures were long, and a lot of people thought they were really boring(which at times they were), but i found the majority of them very interesting. he seems to have this whole aura about him that gives you the impression that he knows what the hell he is talking about. sometimes he got short with people when they tried to debate with them, (which is not a good teaching tactic) but sometimes people said the STUPIDEST things and i wanted to slap them too. but that is not good. also, he assigned the same homework every week -- a one page report on a newspaper article related to the current chapter. this got a little repetitive and i have to admit that a lot of people, including myself, didn't do all of them (which brought my grade down of course). i think he could have used a little more variety in his assignments. but overall i loved him!! he was great!

Nussbaum (a.k.a. snoozebomb) does not take kindly to his students' opinions if they differ from his. He gives far too much homework now, though back in spring '98 he only assigned two papers and three tests for the SOC 469 class. He is a fair grader, you might say an easy grader...he's pretty boring but interesting at the same time (he's quite a guy!). The majority of the tests he gives are multiple choice, and are pretty easy if you've done your reading and gone to class.
