teacher is ok

this class was very interesting. however being one day a week from 10-4....DAMN! the one thing i found out in the class is even though the teacher says that since it is for non bio majors so he won't make you memorize terms...he does. everyone but 2 or 3 people bombed the first test and he allowed us to retake it. he is funny though and it helps the class time go by. i'd suggest you take the class if you are only really interested in it. otherwise, pick something else.

Worth the trip

BIO 305 with Obresky is one most enjoyable courses I have taken at State. He breaks down the heavy handed biology terminology for general consumption, is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. He does go on tangents in his lecture on occasion. Okay, more than occasionally, but they aren't too long. The atmosphere of the class is very relaxed. There is no textbook (he gives out a copious amount of handouts), no homework, 1 midterm, final, and a research paper. I have never had a professor who tries to make a class easier for you, but he does expect you perform on the tests.

You will fail the midterm if you do not study for it. It is 2 1/2 hours long, and consists of 5 essay questions, same as the final. He gives you 10-15 essay questions weeks before hand, 3 of which will be chosen at random on the test, 2 of your choice. You know well in advance exactly what will be on the test. Many people failed it this semester because they didn't study, so he offered a make up exam.

The course includes several field trips, two to local marshes, California Academy of Science, and the Monterey Aquarium. The lab portion of this class is rather misleading, it is mostly lecture.

One of the best aspects of this course is that it is at SF State's Romburg Tiburon Center. It is wonderful to get off campus one day a week, where it is warm and sunny. The center over looks the bay. There is a shuttle provided by the school. Another nice aspect is that cookies, coffee and tea are provided in the classroom. I believe Obresky provides these himself.

If you can schedule a full day course, I highly recommend this class.

A teacher ill never forget

This was the most fun class I ever took at state. Mr. Obreski's lectures are very interesting and the overall atmosphere is great. This class also has several field trips to go with it, which is the really fun part. There are two tests; one essay midterm, and one essay final. This seemed a little intimidating at first, but Mr. Obreski gives you all the information needed to answer the essay questions. I highly recommend Mr. Obreski and this class.
