If you are taking as a Segm. III Dynamics of an Ame. City, I highly recommend to take Pr. Pamuk's class. You will learn a lot of interesting things. I took a night class with her and it was very easy. She doesnt take an attendance. Some people just showed up for group project presentations which we had only 1. She grades based on this presentation, a midterm and a final. As for a midterm and a final we had only a few questions to answer. The final was take-home!! Pr.Pamuk is a great teacher! She organized the class material very well, I enjoyed her lectures. Easy to pass, easy to get an A in a class. She does want you to read the chapters but it is completely optinal. She brough in a guy who works for City planning and we had a chance to ask him all the questions we wanted. Overall, great teacher, intersting lectures, great personality.

Prof. Pamuk is a well-organized teacher. She's a joy to have if you hate instructors that don't seem to give clear directions. She also responds to email inquiries rather quickly which is great if you're a working student like me who don't have much time to go to campus. She has excellent availability outside class time.
I took a Segment III class with her in Fall 00. The course consists of 3 exams that are mostly objective questions. Reading materials are pretty extensive. They come primarily from the City Reader text. We did a course project which required weekend observation of a specific city neighborhood which had to be presented in class. The course itself is primarily about learning what makes a city a city. It was an interesting course that I really enjoyed and learned lots of things from.
I thought the requirements were quite extensive for a Segment III course, but then again most of the students in my class were Urban Studies majors. Take this class if you want to learn about cities, but not if you're just trying to fulfill a Segment III requirement because it will make you work your buns off. Overall, Pamuk is a great teacher. She's well-versed about the subject, has excellent communication skills, and a fair grader.

At first, I was completely lost in class, but then as it moved on I found it very interesting. She is sometimes hard to understand and all the class presentations seem to be a waste of time. There is a midterm and final and final project. She grades written work on a check/check plus system, so that was pretty easy. The midterm was easy as long as you studied the terms on the study guide. I have not taken the final, yet.
