She gave off a very stern appearence on the first day of class but I found out after a couple of classes she was actually very cool. Her lectures are one of the most interesting during my whole time at State. Her lectures are very organized, detailed, and presented. There isn't really any homework or in class work. As a matter of fact the class consists of only the mid-term and the final. What's important is coming to class for the lectures. There is a lot of reading but I only found it gave more explanation to what she reviewed in class so it was basically not essential, but for your own knowledge. I highly recomend her class to fulfil the US History requirement.

Dr. Pang is a wonderful instructor. I had her two semesters ago, and can still remember her intense lectures about the different Asian immigrant groups. Dr. Pang has extensive knowledge of the subject, and you can tell that she is very into her job, a characteristic that not many instructors have. We had several readings from articles, and take-home essays that followed, and the usual midterm(s) and final. Dr. Pang is the type of instructor who wants you to learn, and was very kind in answering my questions in person, and through email. SFSU should have her teach more of the AAS courses (or whatever other courses she has studied) because she really is one of the better teachers here.

Gin Pang's class was totally refreshing. Each morning I would wake up looking foward to attending her class. She is very knowledgeable about the subject and really tries to get the students involved. There were informative lectures as well as a few valid films that brought in variety to the class. Her tests were straight forward and she grades very fairly. Homework assignments were given out occasionally and helped us understand the issues at hand more thouroughly. Extra credit assignments were also offered to those students who needed extra points for a better grade. The class was stimulating and her demeanor is pleasant. For anyone who is thinking of taking her class, I would definitely encourage it. I initially took this course as a G.E. requirement but because of her and the class she taught I have decided to minor in Asian American studies. I only wish that there were more of her to go around to teach more AAS classes.
