Prof. Paton is the most energetic and enthusiastic professor I have ever taken for any subject here at SFSU. He has a great sense of humor but more importantly, he knows his material well and is very welcoming of student input. But even if he doesn't know the answer to what you're asking, he does his best to get back to you the next class session and usually does a great job at that. If not, he does tell you resources on how to find what you're looking for.
He's fair on grading papers (write-ups) and really emphasizes being able to write short yet concise papers well; he says that if nothing else, that would be the most important skill you should get out of his class(es).
As for group presentations and in-class group work, all I can say is that it is up to you to do your share of the work. If your group doesn't do anything to help out, just ask Prof. Paton to put you in another group EARLY in the semester. The majority of your grade rides on the group presentations, so DO FIND YOURSELF A GOOD GROUP TO WORK WITH. I was lucky so far to have excellent groups for BUS 450 and MGMT 655, both of which Paton teaches.
The readings are fairly dense and lengthy, but they are very interesting and if you're anything like me or the majority of classmates I worked with, you'll find yourself almost completely immersed in the readings.... they're that good. But for the purposes of answering the questions which he posts on iLearn (for class discussions), you'll get by if you simply skim the readings and extract only the materials you need to address the questions. Again, this is very straight forward and shouldn't take more than 45-minutes to an hour to complete.
I often put in a good hour and a half for his assignments and a the better part of a day or two per week to work on the group assignments.
I think you'll enjoy whatever classes you take with Prof. Paton.... I sure did!

Take this teacher if you want to learn about real world issue. His class will open your eyes to global issues at hand not just focusing on the United States. Homework is not that much. All semester there are 5 two page paper, lots of reading but you really don't have to read it, and 2 group projects that it. O yea can't for get to mention no final!!! This guy is willing to help students out with anything. He is really approachable and an management adviser.

Theres not much to say about him other than the fact that he is one of the best professors that I've had at State. If you have an opportunity to take this guy for any of your courses, do it. I took him for BUS 450 and am taking him again for Mgmt 655.
He's fair, hes intellectual, stimulating, though sometimes his speeches can drone on but overall hes an excellent teacher. Unlike the other professors at SFSU he doesn't come off with a holier-than-thou attitude even with a Ph d. Very pleasant and will treat everyone in his class like a human being.

Professor Paton exemplifies what can go right in education if you have all the proper elements in place:
1. A good and thorough understanding of the subject matter. 2. Clarity of thought and expression. 3. Ability to clarify ambiguous material. 4. A willingness to abnegate one's personal time and ambitions for the benefit of others -(the students). 5. Conscientiousness with regard to educational quality. 6. Fairness 7. Enthusiasm 8. Ability not to take oneself too seriously 9. Basic human kindness
If you are looking for an "easy ride" this is not the place. If you want to find out what "real" college courses are like (as opposed to what you usually get in the academic abyss of the CSU system), then take this class. As an added bonus, you will have a teacher who genuinely cares about teaching and your success.

Bruce is a great guy. He knows a lot about the subject he teaches and gets the class interested. You have two texts including the final. There is one group project that requires three papers. No big presentations, just a couple random small ones less than a minute with your group, usually about a case study of sorts. I would highly recommend him.

Besides his pleasant/very nice, enthusiastic personality, Professor Paton is one of the best instructors in the Business Department. His class is not only fun, but I guarantee you that you will learn so much after his class. All the readings and class activities that he assigns are well-thought. I highly recommend Prof. Paton!

paton is a pretty awesome guy. nice and understanding -since i got an extention for a paper =). there are 2- two to three page papers -which are basically on the same topic but from different point of views-and 1 final paper, which is a combination of the previous two papers. relatively easy. there are 2 exams- he gives you a list of questions (usually about 15)prior to the exam and you can either answer them yourself or in group. he picks 6 out of the entire list of questions for you to answer. the readings are ok. not too boring. lectures may be a bit on the boring side, but you can tell paton really does give it his all to make it interesting. plenty of small group work- but you aren't really required to speak up so this will be a good course for people who want to look invisible in class.

Professor Paton is a really nice, outgoing, and down to earth teacher. He is one of the easiest professors to take for BUS 682. There are no mandatory oral presentations; however, his exams are somewhat difficult. There are three papers to write, aprox. 2-3 pages each.
Highly recommended!!

Bruce Paton is a new teacher with a lot of outside work experience that helps in teaching this seminar class. Because he's so new, he has a lot of energy and ethusiasm for the class.
You can tell he's a really friendly person that cares about what he teaches, and he cares that his students understand all the case material that is assigned.
His tests questions is taken from a list of questions that students submit to him. To do well on the tests, just make sure you're able to answer all the questions on the list.
