Great Teacher

Tony is definitely the best teacher I've had in my three semesters of college. He's got an amazing personality, and at the sametime Tony is very dedicated to his craft. If you attend his office hours and listen to his advice, he'll help you construct an A speech. Their were only two papers in his class, one about Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream speech," and the second on Al Pacino's speech in Scent of A Woman. Tony's class was probably the most demanding class I've ever taken, but it was very enjoyable because Tony will help you out if need assistance. If you're willing to work hard, he's great. But if you're slacker, do not take his class.

A wonderful and inspiring teacher

I have had problems with speaking. Untill tony's class I Really couldnt speak and feel good about myself. I really enjoyed and appretiated the time and effort Tony put into every student. Where the problem be large or small. Although he was a bit unorganised in his teaching style. I enjoyed it more because he was cut loss. But when it came down to exams and lectures he was on the ball, and ready to go.

Of The best professor out of the 20 Ive had!!! I will take him again.

If you want an easy A, Anthony is the teacher to give it to the person that works hard, shows extra effort and EARNS it. He may fool you with his kind personalitly but he tells you up front, first day, " do not confuse my policys with me!" If you WANT to learn, he will teach you how to structure your thoughts, overcome anxirty aand lemme tell you, I was scared to death (this was my 5th try!), and he will teach how to deliver like a pro and the best? he will teach you all the trick and trades and strategies of persuasion!!! I learned more in this class than i did in all my classes this semester comboined, and if you want that easy A and dont want to work for it? He will give you the F you asked for. He is not lenient and broken printers and him are old friends so excuses dont work. do the work and by all means go to him for help. HE spent a sat and sun with me to get my speech together, and he also showed me tricks on research. You will learn a lot from class. a whole lot, and you will learn 50% more with one meeting with him. He stresses over time during speech rounds but its only becuase he cant tolerate late people interupting so dont interupt. I did not feel like he was controlling or a nazi, but rather kind and beyond helpful (what teacher stays at the library until they close with you, or meets you on weekends) . I saw him as the best professor I ever had that cared a lot about his students and those that ask him for help, he will be there, no matter what for as he says, "I want you all to get an "A", but I can do so much, you plug everything into my templates and do the work and you got it. He is understanding of absences but you are responisble for getting work from classmates. I think if we had more like him,we would learn more. Him being young and attractive doesnt hurt, but he will ignore your advances. I have seen him do it. He is an extremly ethical professor as well. And the best of all. So funny, I laugh on my out of class after each lecture. Watch out Robbin Williams, and Chris Rock!

Great guy, terrible teacher.

Tony is a really cool person. I admire his life accomplishments and his beliefs, HOWEVER, teaching is not his strong point. Our class was disorganized to the point of extreme confusion on the part of almost every student. He has intense mood swings triggered by his once a week attempts at quitting smoking. This means that on some days he is calm and personable, and on others he is an angry stress case looking for any way to vent his frustration. He gives off the wall lectures that often seem completely unrelated and then holds our speeches up to stringent grading standards. On our last speech, he gave 19 F's to the first 21 speeches he saw and told us about it. I can't help but wonder why he doesn't ask himself where the communication breakdown is, since so few of his students can meet his expectations... The class was fun at times and certainly interactive, but I don't feel it was an apporpriate format for teaching introduction to public speaking.

Very easy, but also very effective Teacher

Professor Perez or Tony as he prefers it is by far one of the best teachers there is. If you seek an easy class that will also teach you how to speak well then this is the class for you. He is relatively well organized. He doesn't give out much reading or homework assigments so you might not even want to buy the book, just read it or photo copy several pages from reserve. His course consists of two speeches about anything you want to talk about. The two speeches are 2/3 of your grade and he is an easy grader. The first 1/3 of your grade is based upon your participation in class and a few simple HW assignments during the first 1/3 of the semester, when he lectures the most. There are no quizzes or tests, the speeches test what you've learned. The only tough part about his class is that he requires you only miss 3 days. I missed about 4 or 5 and that's why I received an A- instead of an A+
