Bryon Philhour

The class was very informative. Not only do you learn about stars and the universe, you learn little aspects of all the sciences. Byron Philhour also does a great job at making it interesting and keeps you alert. The class is definetly a lot of work. There is a HW assignment everweek. There are four quizes, and if you read the book, they can still be tricky. THe Final was a combination of all the quizes.

GREAT TEACHER, THATS ALL I GOT TO SAY, HE CURVES ALL HIS QUIZES and the Final, PLUS everything is open book and open notes..

He is so great!!

His lecture is always interesting and quizzes are very easy. He gives us homework every week and it is often more difficult than his quizzes, but you can learn a lot from it.

I heard many complaints that materials he provides are very difficult, but you can solve them easily if you read the textbook and attend every class. Also, the message board on his website is helpful. You can gain a lot of help from him or other students through it.

Highly recommended.

PS. His character is also very funny!!

He's a hard teacher but he's a good teacher. He gives homework every week, but you learn a lot from the class. The quizes are open book and open notes...it doesn't get much easier than that. He's a wonderful teacher and I highly recomend him. Just be prepared to do a lot of work

This was the worst college course I have ever taken. This professor can't teach. I walked away from that class without learning anything. The homeworks did not help prepare for the tests. I would tell anyone who gets this professor to drop the class. You can probably teach yourself better than he could. It was my worst college experience.

This was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. I couldn't have enjoyed this class more. As for Professor Philhour, I thought he was great. I could tell that a lot of the people in the class didn't particularly like him though. For instance, I heard someone say they thought he was the most inept teacher ever. I don't agree though. After taking the class I realized that Astronomy is a very difficult subject. Especially when you're trying to teach a basic version of it to a bunch of non-majors. He did a good job though, I understand far more about everything around me, which is what I think his ultimate goal was. Ok, the thing about his class, the homework is hard, and the tests are easy. I didn't do too much work and I got a B. By the way, his name is Byron, not Bryon.

He is okay teacher if you like astronomy, his lectures are very boring though. You will have to read all the chapters he had provided. For the exams,there is only the midterm and final. Midterm is hard, the way to study it is to read all the chapters and answer the review questions at the end of each chapter.The final is comprehensive. If you failed the midterm you will have to do extra credit mock final 80 questions. The Homework to me is very hard I had to get help from my Astro Lab teacher.
