Prof. Prinz is an incredible teacher. Somehow this is simultaneously the easiest class I've ever taken AND the language class in which I feel I've retained the most. She is extremely easy to understand (she can talk pretty well and writes a lot on the board) and in my opinion doesn't go too fast at all. She comes to class late, doesn't care if you're later than her, and lets you out early. This class is extremely fun and extremely easy, and Prof. Prinz is absolutely delightful as a teacher and as a human being.

What an amazing, AMAZING professor! She is truly one of the rare gems you'll find on campus. I came into ASL I knowing her prior reviews on TR.com, but I had no idea that she would be more than I expected. She is a really passionate teacher who cares that her students learn the material so that they may use it in real life situations. One class, she actually took us to the student-run cafe on campus so that we may sit in tables and use the sign language that we've studied to converse to each other. Her exams are quite easy, if you practice your signing at home. She also encourages you to come to her office hours (which I recommend) and practice with her. She is quite understanding of slow signers, but really pushes you to the point so that your signing flows. Her lectures are quite short, but near the end of class, she likes to tell her personal stories growing up as a deaf child with hearing parents. Heartwarming, funny, a bit tragic, and beautiful, Professor Prinz is an exceptional teacher and a wonderful human being. This class and a teacher is a MUST.

Great Teacher! Very enthusiastic, helpful, and sincere. Two test, they measure comprehension rather than one's own ability to sign. This makes sense to me because if you are trying to communicate with a deaf person they can correct your signing, you really need to be able to understand them though. There are opportunities to get before the class and share stories or information through your own signing ability. There is one paper due, a comparison/contrast essay based on information from a book you are required to read. This is an excellent class and Elizabeth is an excellent teacher. You will leave the class knowing enough sign to open up new avenues of communication with members of the deaf community.

Prinz is a great teacher. She always is smiling and is very enthusiastic when she signs. I would have taken Amer Sign II if my major wasn't psychology. I would love to have her as a teacher again. She is really motivational, especially when you don't feel confident about the way you sign. And her tests are fair and her lectures are fun.

Elizabeth is deaf, that's why she is so effective as a Sign Language Professor. The only way to communicate with her is through signs and writing.
She is very nice and has a great personality. I took her class American Sign Language I and level II.
Her class is very easy, just attend her class. There is a mid term and final and she reviews with the class before each test. Almost everybody gets an A in her class. There will be 1 project where you attend and write a review about the event, and you get 10 points.
Overall, it was a very easy and enjoyable class.

This is one of SFSU's finest teachers. I took her ASL I class as well as ASL II. I found myself amazed at how much I was able to learn from Ms. Prinz. She truly inspired me. I highly recommend that you take this class, even if it is purely for your enjoyment...you will turn out to be a better person for it.

She is that kind of teacher that you'll always remember and the kind you wish all other teachers were like. I had no prior experience to ASL, only through watching Channel 9's "Say It With Sign", and I was hesitant about taking this course. But I guarantee that you will end up falling in love with this class, teacher, and ASL if you have any inkling of desire to put any amount of effort in practicing sign. She is one of the best storytellers you'll encounter too. Every lecture is lively and you'll always laugh or smile there. There's easy homework assignments and the exams will be fine as long as you know what the signs are. *duh. If I had the chance, I'd continue with sign.

Professor Prinz is the most wonderful teacher I have ever had. I had absolutely no knowledge of ASL until her class, and I recieved an A- for my efforts. If you are not willing to work, don't take ASL at all, by any professor. You will have to practice ASL outside of class just to understand how it applies to what you are signing. Professor Prinz is understanding, sweet, and completely accomodating. If you are having trouble, TELL HER. She will help you and she will give you the direction you are needing. I wish there was a higher grade to give.

Prior to enrolling in Betty Ann's class, I had taken ASL before. I had a great teacher before her and didn't think anyone could replace my prior experience. I was wrong and she offered me a wonderful experience in both her SPED 688 and 689 class (level 2). She is a very genuine person who is so passionate about what she does. She teaches you about deaf culture, which is something that everyone should understand. I think the best thing about her class is the way she encourages you to learn her language. She is always in a wonderful mood, or tries to appear in one even if her day isn't going great. She is very willing to take extra time out of her busy schedule of teaching at a variety of schools to work with you one on one. Another great thing about her class is that she allows no talking what so ever. She is a wonderful teacher who knows how to relay information to you and the best thing about this is that she is deaf. This is more than I can say for some of the hearing professors on our campus. If you want a great class and a wonderful, passionate teacher, I strongly recommend both her 688 and 689 classes.

This is that one teacher in a million. You know the one. She is passionate and committed to helping all her students learn. She is one of the best lecturers I have ever encountered. But beware there is no talking in Sped 688. You are immersed from day one in the world of sign language. I know some of you will think that you can't go without talking. But she doesn't use her voice either and is deaf. She takes it very slow so that you will learn and a whole new world will open up to you. Tests are easy and she gives practice tests to review the material. She is a wonderful story teller and has a smile that lights up the world. If you have ever wanted to learn sign. Take this class! You will never find a better Sign teacher.EVER!

Bethy Annn is a wonderful instructor considering the suprise she gave me when i first saw her. well, let me just say that i ddi not expect that she is like that, a teacher, the only kind of that teacher actually in the university, SFSU. she is very cool because she cares deeply with her students. she do not let the students, us to be overwhelmed by the instructions that she teaches the class. she is also so flexible, in exams and all those stuff. she give like many review before the exams date. and very cool in giving a make up exams for individuals who might have missed her exams. she is very adorable, she tells good story. i mean she is like a cool Deaf culture bridge between the hearing and the deaf. i hope that you guy take her class because you won't regret it but instead you will enjoy the calls and also will be more fascinated by the Deaf culture ever in your life. YOU will see when you take it. peace.

She is an excellent instructor who shows great enthusiasm towards teaching. She loves her teaching and her students. From her interesting class I learned a lot about deaf culture. The minus goes to that there're too few homework and the exams are a little bit too unchallenging. Yet I highly recommand this wonderful instructor and her fantastic lectures.

Ms. Prinz is an incredible teacher. All of the above comments (except the D+..that person is wacko) are true. The class is easy and fun, and she loves helping students commuincate with the deaf culture. You will leave the class being comfortable with the signs she teaches. If you're eager to learn, you'll do well in the class because this is the enviromnemt she creates for you.

Betty Ann is very understanding and caring. She tries not to overwhelm her students with too many signs. However, she does expect you to know your vocabulary very well. Her exams are fair and if you attend lectures regularly, you'll have no trouble doing well in the class. She gives plenty of opportunity to practice in class, provided you take the iniative. If you see her on campus, she'll usually stop to see how your day is going and give you a chance to use your sign. Overall, she is a wonderful person and a great teacher. It's not too often that you run into a teacher like her.

Betty Ann is a wonderful person, and a very good teacher. She has an astounding ability to communicate with the hearing culture. She is very fair and if you respect her, her class and the deaf culture she shows an incredible amount of respect to you as a student. In addition...she cares about her students, shows an incredible amount of emotion and devotion to them, and is very laid back and easy going. Although VERY unorganized and very fast in respect to teaching new signs, I absorbed ASL very quickly. Obviously her teaching method works because I can now hold a decent conversation with a deaf individual. If you are prepared for her being late to class more often than not, and for writing signs down quickly and getting help outside of class either from her or a good sign dictionary, you'll do well in her class and will learn sign languge.

There were only two tests for this language class, both of which measured coprehension only. We were never tested on our ability to produce sign language. Be prepared to sit and absorb about 40 new signs a week. We never saw a video, heard a guest lecturer, went on a field trip, played a game or did group work. We did pair work twice for a total of about 15 minutes. If you take this class you must organize study/practice sessions outside of class on your own. You will have little production opportunties in class. The teacher shares interesting stories/jokes each week to boost your comprehension. You may very well be bored in this class if you've had much exposore to ASL before.
