Astrid's first impression on the first day of class was incredibly negative. I was so shocked by how she was acting that I made a list for myself so I would not forget later in the semester. Here is what I recorded:
1. Spent most of the first class covering classroom etiquet. 2. Lot's of condescending rhetorical questions. 3. Bragged about her own qualifications while making ours look weak. She even said, "The MBA Program here is like kindergarten." 4. Mentioned her incredibly important security clearance. 5. Most of her joking involved how she "got over" on someone else who "deserved it". 6. Bragged about her work ethic. 7. Talked about past childhood trauma, "I was always the last to raise my hand." This wasn't in itself bad. I respected her for sharing this, but it really seemed like she was still overcompensating for her past and making those around her pay for it. 8. Talked to us like we were children. I understand we are younger and less experienced than you, but we are not in middle school anymore Astrid. 9. Obviously was trying to scare out people that couldn't take her personality.
On the plus side she is a tome of knowledge when it comes to marketing, and she is also very intelligent and willing to help you if you come to her with a question. She can be very sweet at times, and very bitter at other times.
I couldn't really say don't take her, but everyone seems to face her wrath eventually.
The problem is that when you do face her wrath it may be for something minor, and she will quickly compartmentalize the incident and pretend it never happened.
That's the kind of behavior that DRIVES ME CRAZY.
So go ahead take her. Be charmed by her. Learn from her.
But watch your back.

Dr. Proboll is one of the more understanding teachers here at SF State. Although she is stern, she is reasonable. Her exams are straight forward and activities are actually fun. Her homework problems weren't too difficult and as long as you stick to the styles in the book, you will get a good grade. The presentations aren't too difficult either. Great class.

I cannot say enough about this woman. I am not a foreign student, but I am struck with how understanding she is to those who are...she offers other ways than speaking in class to earn a 10% participation grade. Her tests are straightforward with no ambiguity, and she hands out chapter summaries and sample quizzes to go over during class (they also act as an awesome study review tool!). The research project is not as hard as other professor's are - just be sure to stick to her examples/templates she gives and not deviate from them. Even though this is a fast-paced summer course and not a semester long one, the fact that she is "so together" really makes this professor a gem. She truly cares about her students and that, is refreshing.

Not boring if you enjoy marketing and business studies. Good at teaching from different styles- the book, handouts, papers, real world marketing stuff, from her own jobs in marketing all over the world. Will definitely take her classes again. Her grading scale is really good and her time to give you your work back is excellent too.

I took MKTG 632: "The influence of the Internet on Marketing Research" in the summer, with Professor Proboll.
The project is a real-world project, which is much more than I can say for most academic projects I've ever been assigned. When we are finished with the project we have a complete template for a marketing research design, from start to finish!
I've been in some focus groups as a respondent over the past few years, and this prof knows how it really works in industry- she teaches you not just the book knowledge- which is interesting- she also teaches you how to get a job, market your skills in the present economy, and how to network with other professionals. She even brought in a guest lecturer from industry during our short summer session!
This is one of the best, most practical business classes I've ever had, and Prof. Proboll is a class act- bringing her international experience and her compassion for students into the classroom.
I found her to be extremeley responsive and helpful in giving me direct feedback on my writing assignments too. I'd definitely sign up for all the classes she teaches in the future. Highly recommended!!!

Her class is very boring, she needs to better communicate with her students. Her test are fine if you study the tons of handouts that she gives out. She gets mad if you don't memorize the syllabus, and gets very upset when you sidetalk during her long boring lectures. So if you enjoy a full afternoon of boring crap, be my guest. I think she has anger management issues.

I find the teacher to be very passionate and knowlegable about the marketing. She made the class very enjoyable and easy for students. There were only 4 tests(each was 25% of a grade)that were quite easy if you went to class, read the book and studied slides that comes on a CD that comes with a book. The grading scale is pretty good. For example, to get B-, you only need to get 76%. Exams are based on power point slides that come with a book and her lectures, but reading a book would also help. Also, if she says "It might be on the test", it is definetely on a test. Exams questions are very straighforward, without any trick ones.
I strongly recommend this great teacher.

Very dry...projects would have helped. Fair tests. The subject matter is very hard to follow without examples and a fun. I heard the online version easier.

She is boring as hell. Take Prof. Beall or somebody else if you can. She is so so boring. Most people in the class couldn't wait to just get out of there.
