'A' for effort. Jane, while probably juggling way too many balls, comes into class with an unbelievable energy level. The course work (not just games) is 95% hands on, including volunteer hours, a day on the ropes course and throwing a party for a bunch of kids. She, from day one, tells you exactly what she expects and grades accordingly. This is a great class to take while enrolled in high-stress requirements- it brings up a smile and reminds you to take it easy. If you're a workaholic (including weekends) and don't have much time to devote outside of class (20-30 hours), save this course until you quit your lousy job(s).

I would have to say that Ms. Reed is the coolest teacher that I have ever had. She always made class fun and exciting. There was quite a bit of reading, but the reading was mostly articles from newspapers. She allowed people that attended all the outings, had an average of a B- on the two midterms, and turned in the 3 papers ontime to not have to take the final. She also offered extra credit. In this class you learn about Recreation and Play. You learn alot of games and also lead games with children. If you keep up on the reading the midterms are easy. They are based on the reading and her lectures. This class is a good opportunity to assert yourself and have fun at the same time. I highly recommend this class and teacher!

well, Jane seems like shes a nice person, but as a teacher she really goes overboard. For starters in a "leisure" class you would think it would be fun and engaging...wrong! She makes it dull and very textbook. In addition to over anylizing the subject of leisure, she ensures that you are constantly busy with paper, after presentation, after boring reading. My friend took this class with the head of the department and he loved it! He said I was in for a fun, easy ride. Well as the semester is coming to a close I can say Im glad it's over! Jane Reed is pretty cool, but she comes off like a young, first year professor thats trying really hard to teach. My advise is dont take this class with Jane unless your really into Rec studies, otherwise you'll find it pointless and mundane like I did.

Jane Reed is an enthusiastic, motivated, organized, and FUN professor. Her Leisure and Contemporary Society class which I currently have has taught me alot about aspects of leisure, society, time, and life in general which I had not previously been exposed to. The best part of the class is that she balances lectures and note taking with videos, class participation through panel groups, guest speakers and even games and activities. This is a great GE course because it is not that time consuming, but it is very worthwhile and entertaining. We rarely have writing and homework assignments because the biggest part of our grade comes from the midterm, final, and our position (research) paper that you can write on just about any topic you wish that relates to leisure. I highly reccomend this class for any student who wants an entertaining yet educational experience from a young and motivated professor! :-)
