Professor Richter is an outstanding addition to the IR department at SFSU. I really enjoyed his class and felt that he had a lot to offer his students. In regards to the student that labeled him as "scatterbrained", Richter is not scatterbrained. He trying to find the most benefical teaching style through trial and error. Thus proving him to be a Professor that cares, which is exactly what the IR dept needs.

I agree only partially with the former reviewer. This instructor is well informed and the course is properly organized. The readings are competent and the assignments too. I did not like the long paper, however. I agree that this teacher is a bit fickle in his views and rather scatterbrained in his commitment. He is like a chameleon and I think that he needs to take a sabbatical and think about where he fits in the universe.

Dr. Richter teaches an excellent intro to IR course. Most of the class is based on discussion from textbook readings, and on student presentations of topics germane to IR. Beware that there is a 12 page term paper due at the end of the semester, but the class is good practice for what to expect if you are an IR major.

Dr. Richter views students as equals, and only helps to guide, not lead, the discussions. However, sometimes his opinions are at the mercy of whoever he is reading; one week he was a devoted follower of Chomsky, the next week, a patriot.
