It's a shame that she's leaving SFSU for UC Berkeley. I took her for woman's studies 150, and thought she was a great teacher who deserved some mentioning. If she ever comes back to teach at our school, I definitely recommend her. Really REALLY passionate about what she teaches, especially in regards to women of color, as she is Latina. She's also a very nice person, who has a GREAT sense of fashion! Love her outfits!

Rowena is an inspiration to all women of color. She opens people's eyes to how the real world works. Her class lectures always have a point to make and she tries to link it to today's problems. Even though the class is about women's history, it is certaintly about everyone's history and how we haven't come far from it. Her lectures are clear and she gives examples if no one understands. Rowena always goes over the readings and explains as much as she can. She is very good with answering questions and paying attention to student comments. Her exams are easy as long as you understand her lectures in class. She gives essay exams which don't limit your knowledge of the material. One thing I loved about her class, was that her focus was not just on white women, but on people of color. She lets people of color know that we can do and be what ever we want in life. Even though we have obsticles, we can succeed just like white people have. She is a caring and proud person who lets all her students know that they are just as important as everyone else. She tells the truth about untold stories of bravery and strength of people who were here before white people. Not only does she try to represent the misrepresentation of people of color, but she does it for women in general too. History seems to only tell "HIS-STORY" and not "HER-STORY." Women were a part of forming "America" too! I believe this class is more than a requirement, it's the lens to how we view the world. What ever class she teaches, her passion and dedication to the students and to her teaching is incredible. She is a great teacher and I really recommend her to everyone, especially the ones who still think Thanksgiving was really a time of sharing and giving, because it wasn't!
