The final is insane!

Some advice, be very careful and study like hell if you plan on taking his phys 101 because the final is insane! I wasn't doing so great with the quizzes during the semester and thought how in the world am I gonna pass this class? but on the final however I did fantastic and got an A-. A lot of the problems may end up on the final, plus the book helps too, so its wise to remember just about every single problem, which may seem impossible but it could be done. I mean if you don't have "it" ready with you for the final, then you're screwed cause like other students said here, the final is like 200 problems but I finished pretty quick so it wasn't so hard. As for Professor Rogers, the guy totally lost it, he needs to retire from physics! I remember he would make a lot of mistakes doing the problems and totally confuse the class.

Very confusing

i dont know how long he's been teaching this class but i think its time he threw in the towel. On the first day of class, he was totally unorganized and fumbling around like a loon, it almost seemed like a joke, I mean is this guy serious? Everything seems confusing because of the homework from the workbook that needs to be turned in, the quizzes to take online the very same day before a certain time, and what not. I mean this is only a 100 class except it feels like some advanced upper division course. It's worse the fact that this course is a requirement for some majors, and this is the only professor teaching this class! Doh!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!

This is the worst professor in the whole world. Do not take his class!!! He confused everyone last semester because he gave us the wrong formulas and his explanation were wrong. There is a quiz at the end of each lecture and also he messed up in the quiz because he was giving us the wrong one. He is awful. I am a 4.0 student, but I had to dropped his class because I couldn't understand his explanations. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!

Take him if you don't need very much attention and are REALLY good at working independently from a b

He seems like a nice guy. Only problem is, he's been teaching the same class for so long he often forgets what he's teaching and goes off on an in depth example that maeks little or no sense. Also, he will often get confused and say the worng answer is right, spen about 20 minutes trying to figure out why it doesn't make sense then tell us to forget what he was telling us and to ork it out on our own. I'd take him again only if math was involved so I could understand what he's talking about. Take him if you don't need very much attention and are REALLY good at working independently from a book.

Good thing the book was good!

Dr Rogers is a good person, but seems to have his head inside physics too much. Sometimes he'll start an example, get confused and tell you to try to figure it out yourself to "find his mistake". He admits that sometimes his brain moves too fast, and you will have to slow him down. It might have been better to take Phys 111 with the extra math, just so I could understand the concepts better. Also my lab TA was a flake, "loosing" my final and giving me an incomplete until I started hasseling him about it.

Knows what he is doing

Overall A good lecturer... It shows that he knows what he's saying.. the pace was good, every class we learned a chapter or two with a quiz at the end. Lots of chances for extra credit. Lots of visual demonstrations. Is happy to answer questions, the problem is that some students hesistate to ask, which is normal but not his fault because of the size of the class. When I sent him an email once with a question I got a quick response. Has some sense of humor as well. Let us use a single sheet with notes on the finals- I find that EXTREMELY useful since I dont have to fear forgetting this or some other formula. Final Exam was Challenging nevertheless. Fun learning physics with him. Overall, Lectures were a positive experience.

Enthusiastic

He puts out the effort if you ask him questions. If you don't raise your hand or talk to him then you deserve not to pass. He is very helpful and enthusiastic.

Not so great.

He let all of us know that his class is going to be based on the book. There's homework everyday from the book and he wants it to be turned in everyday. We have quizzes everyday and have double quizzes at end of every parts in the book. He is not a good lecturer at all. I know he means well but jumping around is not a good thing to do. He just has so much to tell that he thinks telling us everything is going to help us. He doesn't finish his thoughts and tend to jump back and forth betweeen them. It is better to read the book and try to understand from there. He also told us to refer to his web page a lot. Most of our homework are posted on the web.

The good thing about this class was that he gave us extra credit opportunities (lots of them). If you are doing bad, then you might want to do extra credit all the time. Extra credit and homework are 70% of the grade and the last 30% is for finals.

If you have time to read and don't mind reading from the book, by all means..take his class. If you need more time to be spent on the chapters that you don't understand, you might want to think about it. He is going to have you read every chapter in the book and that is about 33 chapters. Good luck if you take him.

Good Teacher

Professor Rogers might be a little disorganized, but he tries his best to make sure every student understand physics. He will take his time going over problems students are having trouble with.
