I took Speech 150 and I felt very comfortable in front of the group. Charles makes this class very easy and fun. The course is great and his grading is very fair. I would recommend him to anybody and it this would be a good course to take with him. He understands the needs of students and is more than willing to go out of his way to help his students. My overall sense is that he has been one of the best teachers I have ever had in SFSU.

Great teacher, I loved this class. I took it first semester my freshmen year and it really helped me. Easy A as long as you do everything assigned.

His class was very fun. You make a total of 3 main speeches throughout the semester. There is no homework, no tests, no projects, or a final. If you are not a good speaker, or you get nervous in front of an audience, he doesn't point it out in a bad way, rather gives you tips to use for the next speech. I have not gone to him for personal help so I wouldn't know if he is good with individual students. He gives about 3 lectures (1 for each speech) and fully explains what to do and say for the type of speech. YOu won't be confused on what the speeches are requiring. I did not like him for the first week or two, but you get used to his personality and start to find him as a cool person. He's very funny, friendly, and has a great personality. If you go to class every day and are on time every day, you will get 10 extra points at the end! His sense of humor is a bit mean, but overall he is a good teacher for this course. The semester passes by very quickly with his class! I would recommend him.

This was one of the best speech classes I have taken. I was not really interested in taking speech, but now I am thinking of getting a minor in speech comm. I'm not sure what that other person's gripe is with Mr. Rope but he must have done something wrong not to do well in the class (not followed directions). Mr. Rope makes the class comfortable for people to speak in. I think if you show up and do your work there is no reason not to get a good grade in this class.

I really wasn't looking forward to taking Spch 150, but Charles found a way to make it more relaxing and in the end, fun. He was very upfront with his requirements, which I liked. In doing this, he made it possible for everyone to achieve a good grade provided they did their work. Unfortuntely quite a few students didn't do the work and then complained about his teaching. Personally, I think Charles is a great teacher (which is evidenced by my improved speaking skills) and would recommend him to anyone having to take this course.

Charles, Charles, Charles.....I must admit Charles was an overall good teacher and I do recommend him if any of you are interested in taking Speech. The only problem with Charles is that he picks favorites and I HATE it when teachers do that it makes me feel so small. Another thing is when people were giving their speeches he would comment to his neighbor (but try and act interested). Anywho he's really easy and if you can look past his favoritism or even be his favorite then I recommend you take him.

Great laid back class. And he's a cool guy to talk to and doesn't seem so much like a hardcore teacher. You also don't have to take quizzes, just as long as you read and have class discussions. Also, you get to know the people in the class and he has everyone feel comfortable and is flexible at what the class wants with projects and speeches. I recommend this class for one who needs a GE done and has a lot of other hard classes.

Charles was a wonderful teacher. I am a freshman and haven't had the best experience at SFSU until I started taking his class. He made coming to class fun, and he was very informative, clear, and concise about what he was teaching. I felt he graded very fair and was extremely easy to approach. He had a wonderful personality, and I would recommend him to everyone. The only negative thing about the class I could think of would be how it seems to drag on sometimes. I took his class one night a week, and at times I thought it would never end... but it's worth it. He's an awesome teacher.

Charles Rope was a very entertaining man but he was too much of a conformist for my taste. The way we had to follow an exact outline while writing out speech (Our introduction must end with a thesis that clearly states, "Today I will be talking about ___ aspects of ___ ...") made it very hard to develop a particular style of speaking. And if those guideines wern't followed your grade suffered significantly. It's important that you don't miss more then 4 classes or your grade will be significantly impacted but other than that attendance wasn't important. There were no tests, quizes, projects, or homework except an outline due a few days befoe your speech. My grade suffered because I didn't follow his exact outline and becuase my speeches were 30 seconds shorter than they should have been. The fact that they were very good didn't matter. Time was the only thing that hurt me and that was not fair. The class was so easy I should have gotten an A+.

Mr. Rope is a great speech teacher. A very enjoyable class. Only bad thing about him is that you can't be late (not even by a couple minutes!) and he seems to get a little moody once in a while. I can't say that he pays everyone much personal attention but he is definitely willing to help if you ask. Written work consists of only outlines with about 3 or 4 big speeches throughout the semester. I took this class on a Saturday but he usually lets the class out early and the time seemed to fly by. I would definitely take this teacher again if he were teaching another course.

Charles Rope is a trip. But in a good way. He'll come off all hard core the first class meeting, like he's tough and stict and whatever. But that's just his opening schtick. He's VERY cool and VERY fun but he can't stand anyone being late, which is understandable because it's a speech class and there's nothing more distracting while you're giving a speech than for someone to suddenly walk in. He's a great guy with a great personality. I found him approachable and he seemed genuinely concerned that we all do well in his class. If you haven't already taken SPCH 150, I hope you get a chance to take it with Charles.

Charles is a very good speech teacher. He gives really good and useful feedback. He is very supportive of his students. I took his class once a week for 3 hours at night, and he makes the time fly by really quickly. One thing that I must point out about Charles is that he is very fair. He does not favor one student over another. He makes sure his grading system is fair to everyone. His lectures are very easy to understand. He is also very open and honest with his students. I really enjoyed this class and if you have a choice, take Charles Rope for Speech 150..he's the best!
