A degree in Joshua

Her main focus is her son Joshua. She talks about him incessantly, has him come to class to show off his non-existent tap dance skills, etc. She talks about her son so much that is had become a running joke in the dance department. I feel like I received a degree in Joshua instead of dance.

As teacher she is VERY un-organized. I did not feel like her lectures were laid out in a organized manner. Her voice is nice to listen to, and she does speak with a presence....if you can get past having Joshua spoken about every 2 minutes. As a dance major I have taken many class from Dr. Rose. She has so much going on in her life that she is so un-organized!!! Grades are never enter into the grade book correctly (always check your grade in her book), the paper are not handed back in a timely manner, her lectures are un-organized, but she is a very nice woman. She has a lot of love to give but too much on her plate to make her a successful teacher.

not clear on grading and assignments

The class was not well organized. The teacher obviously had her favorites (girls form the dance department.) The exams were messy: she gave some in class open book exams at the beginning of the semester. Some people didn't even know there was an exam that day. Some people didn't have the book yet cause the bookstore was understocked. So the "bookless" people had to find someone who was kind enough to share their book with them or they'd get penalized . I didn't understand the purpose of these open book exams; most of us had never opened the book to begin with, so we were looking at the index to find out where the stuff she was asking about was. We read it quickly there, during the exams, and copied/summarized. We passed the exams, I even got good grades, but did I learn anything? NO! I just got a 30-minute "high" on her study/get tested at the same time kind-a- thing!! She shows videos in class, for the most pretty boring The lectures are about dance and current issues. She raises issues to which she has no answer herself. It seems like she knows there is something wrong in the system, and focuses on race discrimination, but doesn't really want to take a stand against the system that creates this discrimination. This way, she turns what could have been an intersting discussion into a superficial one. Watch for her grading system, because you can get a bunch of As and then end up having a B as your final grade.
