And yet I take another class w/ Larry and it's still great how he teaches. Although if he lets you choose either a take-home final, or an in-class final, PLEASE choose the in-class final! That's what made me get a B instead of an A...If you don't have him as a teacher while you're here in sf state, you're totally missin out....on a good grade and on a good teacher.

Well I have to say that class was fun. I took it in the afternoon and I never dreaded going to his class. The things he taught me in the Spring of 2003 really opened my eyes and caused me to ask question about the gov't, history and things that were going on the community. It was easy to ask questions. The hw's were easy and the tests were written but the material wasn't hard. Oh yes and he has the cutest eyes and a great smile!! I don't know if he has a girl but he sure has alot of choices!!! :) Very nice man and a great class where the stuff you learn will stick for a long time!

I really thought this was going to be one of the classes I was going to have a hard time in, but Larry made it so much better for me to learn and do my work. You do have to work for your grade, but I have to say that just as long as you attend every class, listen to him, pay attention and get yourself involved, you'll pass his class. The first test we had that were essay questions were on various topics he talked about in class, but his review sessions are a big help, plus if you've participated in class discussions, you'll get an A on the test like I did. I strongly recommend him. He's one of the best teachers that will get you into the subject.

Took his class in spring 2003, he makes everything fun and easy to understand. He didn't have us do the final project, but gave us essay questions to do at home. This was one of my easiest classes ever.

Larry makes this subject relevent each semester. He likes to intergrate things that are going on now so that you understand the concepts. His main concern is that you "get it." This was my only class on TTH, so I hated getting up and going to it and I was chronically late...my advice is DON'T BE. He's a really nice guy, but if you are late, especially after he's said not to be, you are gonna feel bad just by the way he looks at you. He didn't make us do a project this semester, so this was a fairly easy class to pass. I know that since I was not big on participating, that I am not going to get an "A." Larry is really big on participating. He's not a tough grader, so basically if you can back it up with enough BS, he'll buy it. He'll also add people even when students are already sitting on the floor :o).Overall, I'd definately recommend him to anyone. P.S. His handwriting really does suck...he even admits it

Larry was a really cool teacher to have. He knows a lot about the subject he teaches. I enjoyed the discussions we had in his class. By the way, don't get distracted by his astonishingly good looks and great personality. I just have one question: Is he single???

I took his class a couple semesters ago and he is a great teacher who really knows how to teach.
He is also one of the nicest teacher i've known! When everybody was rushing to add to any Eths 110 class (which is always full) but couldn't add, there's always room for people who wanna add.
For his teaching skills, he really knows every single thing of the material without a doubt. Confident and inspiring in class. Has a great sense of humor which makes his class very enjoyable. And he really knows how to "communicate" with the students through the material. So if you come to class, you'll be fine.
His test is a bit difficult if you dont read the book. And the only thing which i feel is kinda a drawback from him is his final exam. Which is a MAJOR 15 PAGE ESSAY that you have to make! (Omg...) But as for the rest, its all good.

When I enrolled in Salomon's class, it was kind of on a fluke. Since ETHS 110 is a b***h to get into, people were begging any teacher to let them add and getting turned away. Larry was letting folks in! And for that I'm glad.
I took him a few semesters back and the class was great. His class is pretty straightforward, show up to lecture, take good notes and you'll be fine when midterms roll around.
And of course, the guy is really hot! So for any females who want good eye candy during lectures, he's the guy to take. Needless to say, I rarely missed class.

Larry is one of the most inspiring teachers I've had so far at San Francisco State. I took his class during the semester of 9/11 and not only did he make issues relevant to the course, he offered much-needed emotional advice to deal with the national tragedy. He also has a place in his heart for the inner-city intelligent students that are every bit as raw and challenging as he is. For all the ladies swooning over him, watch out. He will eat all of your lunch if you leave the room and blame on another student ;)

Out of all the classes I had this semester, this class was my favorite. I always looked forward to going to this class. I would recommend this class to anybody anytime. I always looked forward to the lectures in the class and always looked forward to being involved with the discussions. Larry, is the kind of teacher that is available whenever you need him. You are able to talk to him about anything and he makes you feel comfortable to do that. He listens to what ever you have to say and gives you reasonable advice. There is no teacher like Larry Solomon!!!!

Larry is very informative as an instructor. The class was VERY interesting and the reading selections and documentaries he chose were great as well. After reading some of the above reviews, I cannot believe anyone found him UN-interesting, or got bored in his class. It was never boring and feel if anyone was, they probably get bored with anything that requires some effort and involvement. I also read someone complaining that to get an A you have to make an effort...well all I can say to that is DUH! This isn't high school. He is a fair grader and gives ample warning for papers and tests as well as giving out test questions beforehand to study, as stated on other reviews, he doesn't use all of the questions, but you know what to study, there are no surprises. And, yeah boy, he is one sexy man!! ;-p Not that it made it any easier as far as the class goes, maybe even a more of a distraction! Whew, those beautiful eyes!!

First of all, Professor Salomon's class is better than any class in Ethnic Studies. I enjoyed his class a lot. My brother took him two years ago and he told me to enroll in his Critical Thinking class. I get bored easily but I can honestly say that his teaching keeps students interested. If you get bored in his class, you must have the attention span of a child overdosed on Cool-Aid. Last but not least, to all the ladies out there and some gentlemen, "HANDS OFF" he's mine (in my deams, anyway.)

First of all, Larry is really cool. He acts like a college student.but when it comes to being a teacher, I think he's really just ok. He really tried hard but the class is still real boring. His papers were easy to do, exams were ok. You don't really have to do a lot in his class and you'll pass, but if you want to get an A, you must show some effort.

larry is one of the most ouststanding teachers i have had at this school. he is always there to help his students and he is very easy to talk to ( unlike some proffesors at this school ). the work he gives over the semester is some what challenging and you will retain the information once u leave the class. and to my fellow woman at out there, larry is damn sexy!! even if you don't feel like paying attention to the lecture u can always check out that chalk line he tends to get right across his ass! :)

Larry is probably one of the best instructors I have had a SFSU. He is a fair grader and is willing to go out of his way to help students get a good grade. There is a lot of writing in this class, and you have to buy a lot of books. Stay awake, participate in class and turn in all assignments and you will do fine in his class.

Larry is a cool guy not just as a teacher. He will answer anybody's question. For this GE course, this class emphasis on racism and stuff like that, that this school loves to expose. Most of the time, the lectures are pretty BS, and the course reader that are assign is very huge. You don't even need to buy the course reader to prepare for the test, because on the class day B4 mid-terms, he review every questions. He only gives two mid-terms, no Finals!!! The mid-terms are essay format. I'm not gonna write out very specific details about his test format, so I'll be brief: He chooses like 12 questions to prepare for, and he'll only choose 6 questions that will be on the test, but you only have to answer 3 of the 6 questions on the test. You can gamble, like if you only want to study around 8 questions or even only 3 questions to prepare for if your that damn lucky. Get the idea? I gamble quite a bit , and luckily, the questions I never prepare for wasn't on the test. =) Also, another drag, is you have to read 2 novel sthat deals with another ethnicity, and you have to write a book report (Salomon doesn't like to call it Book Report, but personally, I think it is).
