MR. SCHUSTER'S CLASS IS VERY BORING AND HE IS NOT FAIR IN HIS GRADING. HE HAS HIS FAVORITES AND CHOSES THE MOST BORING THINGS TO READ AND WRITE ABOUT. HE HAS KNOW CLUE OF HOW TO TEACH AND SHOULD BE DENIED TEACHING AT SFSU. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU YOUR INTERESTED IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY (PLATO, AND SOCRITIES)AND BEING BORED.

HE HAS YOU WRITE A LOT OF RESPONSE PAPERS; HOWEVER, HE GIVES A PAPER THAT YOU CAN CHOSE A TOPIC, AND THEN WANTS YOU TO RE-WRITE IF HE DOESN'T LIKE YOUR TOPIC.

WHAT A TOTAL JERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I truly didn't think that I would enjoy this class. I figured it would be one of those go to class once every bluemoon deals. However that was changed on the thrid day I went to class. He is a character to watch, as well as him being sooooo funny you can see that he really knows stuff. I've read things that I never thought that i would read. as well, this class has truly expanded my knowledge of the humanities. Hopefully if he continues to teach this course next semester people will be able to experience the Miles Davis day. Thats where you kick back and listen to jazz and review art. for a class it doen't get any better than that.

Professor Schuster presents the Great Works in an approachable, humorous, thought-provoking way. Do yourself a favor and take his class. I've been in college for three years, but it wasn't until this semester that I had the kind of "Dead Poet Society" experience you see in the movies. He has inspired me and sparked in me a love of learning. (I know it sounds corny, but it's true.) He's available to his students if they need advice on papers and is very helpful. You can tell he really takes the time to plan out his lectures. He's obviously had some acting experience, because every lecture is like a performance, but one that transforms you and leaves you pondering the greater meanings of life itself.

Though the semester technically isn't over yet, I find him to be a very good instructor. I know that I am doing well so far in his class, but I almost want to fail his class just so I can take it again! He makes it a point to include works from all over the world, to show that we are all one people and we all share some important views on what makes us who we are. When he reads my papers, he gives me tips on why my paper was good or how I can make my paper better if it was not so good. I also like the fact that he made us read works from a long time ago, because I would not have wanted to read them otherwise. He explained the works well and made them seem as if they could have been written today. I guess the Humanities department likes to show that lots of different works of art can be put together and say something to a person, and I like that a lot about the class too. Mr. Shuster makes it a point to tell us about the work so that we can think about it. And I like the fact that he gives us some answers to why we are reading the books because sometimes I don't know why we are reading them.

Well, I'm not done with the class yet, but from what I could tell you now, this guy's a winner! It's too bad I can't give him an A++, because I can't begin to explain how much he has changed my life! First, he had us read some Greeks, I forgot who they all were, but they were really cool...and funny too. Aristophanes is like Chris Rock in a toga! Then, he had us read a little Plato, I think he was Greek too, or maybe Athenian, anyway, this guy was *really* funny. Especially the way professor Schuster presents him. One day, he came to class dressed AS Plato, and began reciting from the Republicans, verbatum! All the while holding a huge canteloupe in his hand. I still haven't figured it out, but it was really funny! This teacher brings dead white guys to life (however frightening that prospect may be for you), and really makes you see why you should care what these guys thought. I do now. If you can, take his class. It's like watching TV, only you don't feel guilty afterwards. Seriously though, if your interested in classics of world literature, this class is really informative, and as exciting as the works probably were in their own time!
