Highly Recommend

This guy is a lot of fun. Like many of the science teachers, he loves he subject and the enthusiasm always spills over into his teaching. In terms of covering new topics, this class is a bit of a repeat of other Geography classes. Mr Seibel makes it fun by bringing his own research into the class and making the class very participitive. I really enjoyed the text book altho he didn't really follow it very closely. His tests can be pretty easy but you actually have to prepare well for them. He does require three papers which is a lot of work but I appreciate having to write since I really need help with my research/writing skills.

The Best ever

Erwin is the greatest teacher I have ever had. He whistles into the classroom, teaches you about the world, and then lets you out early, constantly. His class is the only one in which the videos seem longer than the actual lectures. And if you dont know the answer to his question, you can just say you dont know, and he will respond, thats why your in school and move on. Ive never been in such a stress free classroom, where I learned so much. Take all his classes.

His night class is cool. He enjoys teaching!!

His class was my first Segment III course. And to my surprise, his class wasn't that bad. You don't need to purchase the book, because everything he lectures will be on the test. The textbook is also availiable in the reserve library. I enjoyed his once a week night class because he keeps the lecture interesting and put a little bit of story humor relating to his topic. In his once a week class (which he usually let us out 30 min. early each week), it seems like his lecture topics are just like the stuff you see on Discovery channel. Earthquakes, Winds, waves, beaches, pollution etc.

Two midterm exams(20% each). The first midterm was two out of three essay (open book/notes). But he changed his 2nd midterm to multiple choice (close book/notes) because he couldn't handle all the reading from the 1st midterm. Oddly, I did better on the first exam. The final(30%) cumulative, was also multiple choice (close book/notes) and it was fairly easy. Just study your previous midterms and the post 2nd midtern lectures, and you should do fine on your final. And the final 30% is the term paper. Which sucks, because I hate writing long paper, but what other Segment III class does not involve a lot of writing?? The term paper (at least 10 pages) wasn't that bad because you get to select your own topic relating to the course or any earthy stuff. So I recommend taken Seibel if your are going to take Violent Atmosphere as your Segment III section. I will probably take his GEOL 302 course.

Absolutely Fabulous

This has got to be without a doubt one of the most enthusiastic and helpful teachers I have ever come across. Professor Seibel knows his stuff and teaches it with such an enthusiastic and entertaining way that it keeps your attention. You will write in this class, a lot, there are four papers in all. Take heart, the material you study will keep you so "into it" that you won't mind it. Note taking is an absolute must! Exams are almost entirely from the notes in the form of multiple choice and an essay question, except for the final which he sometimes opts to do as a take home exam in which you answer 3 out of 4 questions -- and boy does this guy make up terrific essay questions! It's not an easy class, but it sure is a fun way to learn about things you only THOUGHT you understood.

Fabulous

I haven't had a teacher who's lectures I truly enjoyed for a long time. I looked forward to his class because I knew it would be informative, interesting, and humorous. I learned so much from Mr. Seibel, and I highly recommend taking his class. The exams were tough, but fair. They consist of multiple choice, matching, and a couple of short essay questions. If you take good notes you'll find it easy. Homework was minimal, just a couple of short 1-2 page papers. Most importantly Mr. Seibel treats you like an adult. Take good notes, go to EVERY lecture and you will not only get an A, but you actually might learn something!
