Learn something interesting and get an A

Profesor Selnow is one of the best teachers I have had. His exams (final) is a piece of cake. It is not like an ordinary bus comm class where you have to lots of memos, press releases, and speeches. There are only a couple of assignments, one group presentation, and an individual speech. Although there are not many assignments, you learn alot from each one, making it worthwhile. Selnow's teaching style is organized and easy to understand. I learned a lot from him. I would definitly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn something and wants an easy A.

Selnow isn't that bad.

Prof. Selnow is definitely a tough teacher. His big thing is to prepare us for the real world. Although I dreaded his class, now that I'm out of it, I feel that he is a great teacher. He was very scary at first, but is really a nice guy when you get to know him. His teaching style is very organized compared to other SFSU teachers. If you take Selnow, be prepared for a stressful but well worth it semester.

A "2" speech teacher

Professor Selnow is a great professor. He does expect alot out of his students. But guess what? Don't all teachers? What's the point of going to college if it is not challenging. Professor Selnow is just the man to remind us that life is not easy in a caring way. So then again, he is not that hard. He is one of the few teachers that require students to make 3 or less speech. That's right, only 2 Major speech (1 individual and 1 group). That's not bad at all. The part that was the hardest in the semester was the writings you had to submit along with the presentation. But if you are a good writer, you have nothing to worry about. Again, i strongly recommend that you take this professor because not because he is nice and pretty lenient on speeches if you prepare them well, but because he teaches you effective communication skills that will be useful later on in life.

Preface: i had no idea what i was getting into when i walked in the door to Bus 360: it could be characterized as brutal. Relevance: Prof. Selnow was on the mark. Creating a real life simulation of a difficult situation, with the limited resources available to him, Prof. Selnow demonstrates-not instructs-what Business majors will be up against in the "real world." Depth: offering a wide range of subject matter, in a 15 week course, Prof. Selnow vaidated the principle theme of his course: integirty and reliability are more important than expertise. However, the bredth of theoretical information, as well as practical guidance are well worth the challenge of acheiving a high grade (which i didn't acheive, but don't view as a negative; if I want to improve my grade, I can always take the course again, and prepare for the experience!). Warning: see previous review on topic of group project: emphasis on sizing up your group members: they took me down. Suggestion: wait until you've finished (almost) all other course work in the Business major. This course is not suitable for someone who lacks the acquired analytical skills and refined writing talent which can only be developed over the course of your university studies. In addition to the point made in another review, your work will be harshly and dutifully criticized by Prof. Selnow and his assstant. However, don't blame the subordinate: Prof. Selnow and his collegues set the standards of review, which are determined by the department chair, which has to answer to the local business community: in preparing students for the "real world." Conclusion: don't let your own insecurity prevent you from growing under Prof. Selnow's guidance. If you do, you miss a unique opportunity.

Yeah, Professor Selnow is a ball-buster but he knows what he's talking about! He's tough, definetely! He makes you work hard but when your finished with the class you'll have confidence speaking in public. Some people don't think that this skill is necessary, but when you have to get up in front of a group of your peers, you'd better know how to communicate! This is definetely a necessary skill for someone who wants to get ahead in life and climb the ladder! Without it, you won't go very far! I think that this is one of the few classes that I have learned something that I will take with me after graduation! One suggestion to Selnow - Get rid of your stupid graduate assistant!!! I should have had an "A" in the class but she (the assistant) doesn't know what she's talking about!

His class didn't suck, but damn near. I learned a small handful of things that was useful. Most of his theoretical lecture was uninformative. Before taking his class, you should know how to write. He does not take much time to teach you how to write his written assignments. So if you don't already know how to write for the assignments, you're screwed. You'll probably see him alot in office hours. He's pretty good about office hours. I also do not like the Teacher Assistant grading all of the assignments while he looks over the grading. It makes him look lazy or unconcerned. Finally, if you hate group projects because you always get stuck with a loser-slacker(s), try taking this class from someone else or carefully screen your group members. They will pull your grade down. Selnow knows this fact, but doesn't know what to do about it or is unwilling. There were only 3-4 A's in all four of his classes.
