This is the first A+ I've given to a professor. Sengupta is an excellent professor that gives you a real world experience. In this 872 class we worked with real outside clients helping them with marketing projects. He has a passion for the subject and it shows in his lectures. The class isn't hard except that projects are time consuming if you want to deliver something meaningful to clients. I would highly recommend Sengupta for this or any class.

This professor is kind, approachable, and knows his materials very well.
The goods: - One midterm worth 25%. It is 5 short-essay questions relating to articles that he posted on Blackboard. - The book is small and the chapters are short. The topics relate to the Internet and current situation of it, it's enjoyable and any students can quickly finish it. - The class is conducted more like a discussion rather than a lecture.
The bads: - The final project is worth 50% of the grade, it requires a lot of coordination and time of the groups to do it.
If you are a marketing major and has an interest in e-commerce or internet marketing, this professor is the one to take because he knows his materials and create a good learning environment for his students.

He is one of the best professors I have ever had at State. He is so passionate about teaching this subject and so very knowledgable as well. I learned a tremendous amount in this class--information that I can use in the real world.
Professor Sengupta does expect a lot from his students, but hey this is an upper level course for your major. Shouldn't you expect more from yourself as well? If you want to get through school half-assed then you're doing a disservice to yourself.
His high standards will push you to do your best and try your hardest. His lectures are great, never a dull moment. He makes the information come alive! His exams are a bit more difficult, they are essay-like and consist of three parts. You must first explain a B2B concept, its importance to a business marketer, and an example. If you study, read the textbook, and listen to his awesome lectures you will do fine.
This class is great for those who want to learn more. I mean everyone can take tests and memorize terms and defintions, but this class has an analytical perspective. You need to take the knowledge you learn, internalize it, and utilize it. If you can't do that, how do you expect to survive in the real world?
Other then that, there's a project and presentation. Primary research is of utmost importance, so whichever company you choose try your best to get a contact. The groups are chosen by the professor, so you get a mix of overachievers and underachievers. It is vexing at times, but a great way to understand the advantages and disadvantages of group work.
His class is super. You will enjoy it immensely as I have.

Professor Sengupta is the best Professor I've had at SFSU. He teaches in a way that students will understand and will actually remember concepts after they take tests. I feel that I learned a lot in the class because Professor Sengupta encouraged students to participate and made students want to learn. Dont pay attention to the reviews that say he has an attitude. Those comments are not true at all. I highly recommend students to take a class taught by this Professor.

ALL THESE REVIEWS ABOUT GIVING HIM AN A IS A JOKE. HE IS A TEACHER THAT HAS PASSION YET, A LITTLE TOO MUCH PASSION WHERE HE EXPECTS WAY TOO MUCH. EVERY NOW AND THEN, HE HAS EMOTIONAL OUTBURSTS THAT HE SEEMS TO BRING OUTSIDE PROBLEMS INTO HIS CLASS. HE COULD POSSIBLY BE HAVING PROBLEMS AT HOME. I DO NOT APPRECIATE HIM ALWAYS TELLING US "WHEN YOUR AT A MEETING, YOU NEED TO CONTRIBUTE!" I THINK THATS COMMON SENSE. THE PROBLEM IS NOBODY WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR NAZI WAY OF TEACHING THE CLASS. HIS ACCENT IS SO ANNOYING AND HIS ABILITY TO BE CALM AND CARING FOR STUDENTS DOESN'T EXIST. IF YOUR READING THIS, I HOPE YOU CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE, TEACHING STYLE, AND PLEASE GO SEE A THERAPIST FOR YOUR EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS.

Prof. Sengupta knows this subject very well and seems to be very passionate about it. He is very serious about academics and expects no less from his students.
Only thing to watch out for is his attitude. He has a tendency to have emotional outbursts in class and with students who do not perform to his standard of high expectations. He is also pretty anal about rules so make sure and don't break even rules are procedures. Also, make sure to read the chapters and articles BEFORE coming to class since he will be quite pissed if the class doesn't seem to take the course seriously and he will penalize the class for this.
I liked him. He was a good teacher however I didn't appreciate his condescending attitude.

He is the best Marketing teacher in SFSU!! You really can learn a lot from him as he is very well-educated and passionated about his course subject. There are two exams in the course, mostly based on the book reading. However, you also need to go to his lectures because you will need the examples from him to answer the essay questions(there are no examples mentioned in the book for some topics). He even gives you the study guide to study, so you kind of know what track to go. The most interesting part in the course is the E-commerce project. It was fun and a good experience to do. I agree with the previous reviewers, if you are marketing major, you've got to take one of his class. He really can "get your eyes opened"!!

Mr. Sengupta is the best! Case closed. If you're looking for an easy A and don't want to put time and effort in, then DON'T take it as a "filler" class. It's actually good to know this aspect of marketing if you're a marketing major. You won't find a more knowledgeable teacher on campus either! Or at least I haven't... and I'm graduating this semester! He brings real world examples to the classroom and enjoys hearing his students voice their opinions. Grading is based on the Midterm, E-commerce project and Final .... but participation and attendance are essential!! So if you have the chance to take him, do yourself a favor. I GUARANTEE you'll love him!

You can be as sure as he will start every class with the frase "Good afternoon, lets get started", as the fact that he is an execellent teacher. In fact, he's the best teacher at SFSU I've had, and one of the best professors I've ever had...
The subject is different and hard. The book he uses sucks, but listen to his lectures and participate, and you'll do fine.
His strong voice might scare you at the beginning, but under all that Indian beard, you will find an excellent professor, and a great personality.
His tests are hard but fair, no scantron bs, you have to know definitions, give relevance to them, and give examples.
He throws in an e-commerce project, which adds dimension to the class.
TAKE THIS CLASS!

Mr Sengupta is definitely one of the best teachers at San Francisco State University! He is really into what he is doing and the way he inspires his students is outstanding. He gives you exactly what you need to be prepared for a future career! You have to take at least one class with him if you are a marketing student at SFSU.

In short, he is the best Prof. I have had at SFSU (after 30 units). He knows his subject (high tech marketing) extemely well, is enthusiastic about it, and creates a comfortable class setting that is very conducive to participation and learning. I only wish he taught other graduate marketing classes that I could take. If all other Profs were as good, I don't think I would ever want to be done with school!

He's a very organized teacher. For mktg 649, you are gradedon two tests, a marketing simulation project, and class participation. One warning though, he's very very tough on oral presentations. Everything must be flawless, from the slides to just everything... I don't care if you think you do well on presentations in other classes. Those are other teachers who let it go if you make minor presentation mistakes. Still, he knows what he is talking about and you'll learn something.
