I don't even think she knows what any of her students look like....she has absolutly no eye contact, it felt very impersonal. She assigns homework with out collecting it or sometimes without even discussing it, which is very frusterating. There was no test all semester and she gave us the final paper criteria on the last day of class before finals. She seemed very unorganized and just flustered everytime she came to class. I did not look forward to going to this class.

Basically I liked the class, and Tryon. However, her lectures are sloppy and unorganized, and her eye contact is atrocious. She is passionate, though, which is engaging some of the time.

She knows what she's talking about, but she doesn't explain it in an organized manner. There's no real point to her little lectures, she just keeps babbling on and on as if the class already knows what she's talking about. She tries to cram a whole lot of stuff into one semester, so not everything gets done. Like right now, we're already a month behind in the schedule. Her tests are very confusing and cover way too much for just a 50 minute time period. She doesn't talk to the class, she talks to the chalkboard, the window, her hands..she never looks at the class when lecturing, which is very distracting.

Great Teacher. Some think that she talks fast but she is usually just talking when she does so. (she's not lecturing) She's very interesting and is passionate aboout the material. She was a fair grader and the exams related directly to the classwork. there was only one paper. Overall it was a good class.

Ms. Tryon is a good teacher who definitely knows what she is doing. She may be a little rushed at the beginning of class because she arrives a few minutes late. Her lectures are well organized and she always has a back up plan. Her tests can be somewhat easy, but they are very long in length. You would need to know and read your material. She has a great personality that will make the class a lot fun. You do a lot of group work and if it seems like you are working you will rarely have to turn in any homework.

Prof. Tryon has a really great personality, however, her teaching skills are just horrible in my opinion. The worse part is her exams. When she reviews the day after the test, she'll make it seem like that you're all prepped up for the test but when she gives out the actual exam, the questions there just make your mind blank because she rewords everything in her own little difficult way (out of the league over the materials you have to study). In other words, her review sessions for upcoming exams are incomplete. She is nice as a friend, but horrible as a teacher.

Ms. Tryon is a wonderful teacher. She has good knowledge of the information she teaches, and has a wonderful personality. She makes her lectures and discussions fun. Her only flaw is that she has a tendency to talk fast when lecturing, but she will explain anything if you ask.

Tryon is a great teacher. She throughly knew her subject, and is a commmanding speaker. She is no-nonsense, and expects the students to read and know the material as well, since most of the class is discussion-based. Only downfall is that she may seem too intimidating for some students, and there were complaints that she did not explain things enough. I disagree-- this is a college level class, and teachers should not have to take their students by the hand and tell them how they want everything done. Expect to do work, and also to learn a lot.

There is a lot of reading and seems overwhelming at first, but she really breaks it down for you and makes it bearable. The class was interesting--definitely not a sleeper. Her exams were easy as long as you did the readings. She assigned 2 essays, but they weren't that hard. I recommend this class to all.

When Prof. Tryon started the first lecture she stated that she had not taught this particular subject. She presented us with a syllabus that seemed quite formidible. Her first exam had a high score of about 70. However the information she presented and her skills as a teacher were superb. Owing mainly to the fact that most students were seniors, Prof. Tryon attempted to have a more collaborative type of class. This was sometimes problematic as students often would veer far off course. We were ultimately in control of our own destiny as we had an optional final to end the course.
Prof. Tryon has a definite feminist bent in her lecture and class assignments. While this can become overwhelming and often led to a bit of male bashing, it ultimately served to provide valuable information as to the participation of women in the progress of the Black race and their role in the various movements.
The one problem I would cite with Prof. Tryon is that sometimes she is a bit unclear in her expectations. While this is often the case with instructors, it became a serious problem as the semester wore on and the grading requirements changed.

Ms. Tryon is a very good ethnic studies teacher she works very hard to get class participation which seems to be like pulling teeth because everyone remains silent while one or two students are usually the talkers in class. She has a few quizzes on the material to make sure people are understanding it as she goes along. The majority of her class is 1-4 page typed papers about different topics concerning the material she is covering. She also is easy if it appears you are making a concerted effort in her class. If there is one downside it is that she sometimes does not explain assignments in as much detail as possible sometimes. I recommend this teacher to anyone who likes to read and write and learn some ethnic history.

A. Tryon is very knowledgeable about Ethnic Studies and her quick wit and humor make the class more enjoyable and comfortable. I took ETH 110 w/ her as a senior and enjoyed it thouroughly, although for first-time frosh-people many concepts could be hard to grasp. She asks for student discussion in class, however the class remains silent. Grades are based on in class quizzes(easy), MANY writing assignments(3-5 pages) and a final of some sort. I want to take another class of hers because I really did enjoy her way of presenting information and being very approachable=)

MS. Tryon is an interesting teacher. She is very knowledgable about the subject matter but also has the tendency to speak at the speed of lightening. However, she also has the ability to generate interesting discussions although most classmates do not participate. If one is looking for an easy A or just to satisfy your GE, I would advise against this class for you have to really read your work, and write strong papers. You cannot BS your was through this class, unlike all the other 100 level classes that I have at SFSU.

I had her class last year when i still was a Freshmen in SFSU. She was kinda tough. In order to get a good grade, u need to be very strong in that class and write strong papers. If you are the kind of person who just want to get through SEG I, then this teacher is not good for u. But if u come to school and try to learn, then she is the one u should get. U will do a lot of essays in her class, but the topics are usually very interesting. However, her weakness was her speed. She talked hella fast and even if students who had excellent skill, they still might not understand completely of her lecture. When she ask the students for questions, most students were quiet, cuz most of them were either daydreaming or thinking something else!!!(well many students in most of the classes from any schools in the world are like that)
