A great new addition, but watch out for curveballs on tests.

Dr. Volk was a great teacher to have for Social/Cultural Anthropology. The only complaint I had was that her tests were hard. She told us they were taken from the same questions as the online quizzes, and some of the questions I recognized, but it seemed like a lot of the questions, whatever their source, focused too much on "did you read the book"-type questions and not enough on the real concepts. I'm pretty sure the blame belongs on the publisher because they wrote the test questions. So basically this means you can't just go on your lecture notes when you study; a lot of the test items will be from the book only.

It would help you a lot to bookmark: http://cwabacon.pearsoned.com/bookbind/pubbooks/miller2_ab/ or http://anthro.starseven.net/ that's the book's website where you can take the quizzes for each chapter. Do it. It's VERY helpful!

The good news is that even though you might do bad on a test or two, participation counts for a lot, so don't worry too much. I got a B+ even though I got a pretty low C on one or two of the tests. I don't think the final was super hard.

Great teacher

Lucia Volk is a new teacher. She is from Germany and is really passionate about her field. She is extremely intelligent. The class was very easy. You read books and discuss them in class and the only assignments are about 3 papers. I wish her lectures were more engaging, but I think she just doesn't have the hang of things yet.
