Good guy. Patient and explains difficult material very well

Dr. Wall teaches CSC 510 (Algorithms) and CSC 520 (Theory of Computing) at San Francisco State. I had him for both classes. His teaching style straddles the line between informality and rigorous treatment of the material, making his lectures worthwhile. Real nice fellow.

He's good at assessing the class and how well they're taking in the material, and will slow down if that's warranted. He's always willing to answer questions, although that's not always a great thing since one or two people in the front row (every class has this kind of person) sometimes put him off-topic for several minutes with their questions.

His grading system is fair, on the curve, although his tests are on the difficult side. You're never sure what he's going to ask on them.

Overall he's a good teacher to have and knows Turing machines and theory of computing like the back of his hand.

Good Teacher Pick Him

I think Dr.Wall is a good teacher. He is far better than the average CSC teacher at SFSU. Dr.Wall is knowledgeable, nice, and patient. It was his first time teaching CSC313 at SFSU, and he didn't know C++. Dispite that I felt that he taught the course effectively. I learned a lot, and I could follow his lectures(which is not easy for me in any class).
