Confusing!!!

Shari is probably the most horrible teacher I've had in marketing. Her teaching style is unorganized and jumps from chapter to chapter. She plays favorites and you need to suck up to her if you want a good grade. In the beginning of the semester she breaks you down into groups and you have a lot of BS group projects to do. On top of literally BS-ing your projects she makes you write an 'audit diary' to basically beg for your grade. Her chapter quizzes are detail oriented. Shari likes class participation but she will berrate you if your answer isnt the one she's looking for. She doesnt listen to what students have to say. A few times she had powerpoint presentations on chapters and asked students to bring in a laptop for her as extra credit!!!

Shari teaches with her heart!

Shari is a great teacher who wants to teach her students everything they need to know when they step into the business world. For example, one time she gave an extra credit problem on asking professors for recommandation letters. A lot of us didn't do it because it was only an extra credit and we have enough of work from her class and others. So she told us to take out a piece of paper and we all did it in the class. Now I really know how to write an effective letter to my professor if I ever need to. She does give a lot of work and if you show up every class and do all the work you will be fine.

Shari is about as smart as my ferret

Shari is a twit. Not much else I can say about her. Her class is pretty easy. I never opened the book once and got a B-. She is a nice woman, but she is such a twit you can't jhelp but want to scream at her. She grades based on test performance and personality. If you do good on the tests and she likes you, you got an "A", if you do good on the tests and she doesn't like you, you get a lower grade.

As a prof, she Sucks big time!!!

it's just such a plain to get stuck with this class. 1. she's rule. to a foreign student, she would tell you in your face that your english sucks, which makes your presentation sucks. 2. not only her, or her class, but would you also get stuck with your "group leader", who most of the time turns out to be a b!tch or SOB. If you find out right after you got teamed up that your leader is no more than a crack and so not about to contribute a single shit but just getting him/herself an easy A for the final then get the hell out of the class.....Congratulations!! you are so gonna suck it up in your entire semester. 3. how could you expect a person who would insult others by her typical frequent interruptions listen to a single word you say? save your brilliant ideas, she would smile and nod on them, but it is just a way to ease you into that fact that those are not brilliant enough, at least not compare to hers. i hate talking down ppl. she is one of the few i ever did.

An "OK" class.

Weiss is a pretty cool teacher. The exams are a bit tricky but she allows a one page-both side cheat sheet, on all exams. If you are a group leader with relatively good grades, then you can forgo the final exam. students with an A on the first test and at least a B on the second can skip the final exam and do a small homeworkish project. There are a couple of group work and are actually pretty fun and enjoyable if your groupmates are annoying to work with. Weiss' teaching style seems to be a little "non-planned" at times but almost everything (from slides and readings) she talks about is on the exam. There are 3 exams-which includes matching, multiple choice and one or two short essays. You can prepare your essay questions in advance since she gives you a review sheet with vocabs and potential essay questions. Students are also able to self grade themselves and tell her what grade they think they deserve. Try to get her to remember who you are since that is how she keeps track of class participation points.

The class is just alright...

50% of the class grade is from participation and the other 50% is from 2 test and a final. She expects you to come to class and actively participate in class discussion (she says she gives points when u talk in class, but she really doesn't...the participation grade she gives u on your test is the one that really counts in the end). She usually have you write a paragraph during each class period about the discussion topic or the homework you were suppose to bring in for a participation grade (also to know that you were in class). The tests aren't too hard, but she phrase questions in an awkward manner that gets u confused...so read carefully!!! She also put u into groups the first day of class and you are basically stuck with that group the rest of the semester. The groups are usually very big, between 6-8 people and that makes it hard to do group projects and set up meeting times. She gives one big project during the semester...an advertising campaign. It's a lot of work and I would suggest that you start early. Like I said, the groups are big and not everyone agrees all the time, so usually a big chunk of the project is done by one or two people.

Best teacher so far!!

Shari is a great teacher, she makes such an effort to make the class more interesting. She gives tons of xtra credit and her exams are super easy. She allows a double page cheat sheets and she sticks to the study guide pretty well. You gotta be very lazy to flunk that class. Her projects are a little bit time consuming, but it's worth it if you wanna learn. Her system of assigning group leaders is great, the leaders get automatic A's for the final test. Great teacher, great personality, great class.

Not the BEST teacher, but I have HAD WORSE...

Yes, Shari Weiss is a part-time teacher at SFSU, and she truly makes an effort to make it to class on time everyday (considering she commutes from Marin). I have taken her during the summer for Marketing 431, and yes, I do agree that some of the things we went over in 434 were similar, but not in all aspects. Her exams were very fair, she even lets you use a page of notes for the exam, so there is not excuse for you to FAIL. I admit that it is a little trivial to award all the extra-credit points that she did, but she was trying so hard to motivate the class to do good. Leaders do get a kickback and don't take the final, but if your leader flakes..you can give them the BOOT. Don't be a pussy and not say anything. It isn't Shari's fault that you can't handle stepping up to the plate when necessary. The class is cake, you just need to study and pay attention. Spending three hours cooped up in a classroom during night sessions is a pain in the ass...but she made it bearable by her format of the class. There really wasn't a dull moment. Hey, I work two jobs and go to school full-time, and I never once fell asleep in her class...that has to tell you something!! I do recommend taking her for the intro to marketing 431, as for 434...I expected more, until the end where we did our ad campaign project...now that is a great assignment, and if you are into advertising like I am, you will enjoy the class. So what if her 80s clothes are pretty gaudy, they have nothing to do with her teaching skills. I guess you either hate her or love her. I would have to say the latter...now if you are looking for terrible...check out Blaine Garfolo for ISYS 363 or Wiersba for ISYS 263...need I say more.
