Professor White is one of the best teachers i have ever had!! i hated doing the video questions because i missed 2 or 3 and that alone dropped my grade to a "B" when i had all "A"s on everything else... but her Exams, she gives u a study guide that has everything on the test, no surprises. she uses powerpoint, internet, posts her lecture notes online, a few activities, and movies. she makes learning interesting by incorporating those methods and she is interesting to listen to (she's not one of those old monotone-speaking teachers). she is young and nice looking, friendly and she is understanding. there are no surprise quizes, barely any homework (like 3 things thru the whole semester).. only one was a bish to do coz we had to go to the Academy of Sciences but the due date isn't for a MONTH so u get plenty of time to fill out simple questions and makes it so u can do it on the 1st wednesday so u don't have to dish out any cash. she's pretty tite for a teacher, i would recommend her as a teacher coz she knows her stuff well and she makes learning interesting . Best teacher i've had yet

Dr. White is a fun and easy-going professor. That doesn't mean she isn't knowledgeable or experienced in her field, but rather--tries to make learning the (often times boring) course material fun and "exciting" with the use of many multi-media equipment in class during her lectures (powerpoint, browsing web sites related to topic, slides, transparencies, computer projector..) The use of these often times makes class time go by A LOT faster. She gives everyone a good opportunity to do well in her class and allows her students to explore different ideas and concerns about the theories and topics at hand.

I have to agree with the other reviews of Dr. White- she's interesting, friendly, makes the subject very accessible to non-majors, and even though I took her class a few years ago now, I still remember how much I liked it! I will add I was a history major and dreaded taking the science GE requirements, but I didn't regret a thing about her class. She's genuinely enthusiastic about the subject and about teaching. The field trips were varied and interesting. Great professor.

One of the best GE courses I've taken in a long line of GE courses, Dr. White made learning the history of life informative and at times, quite fun. She is very concise, and follows her outline quite well. Any modifications were always told in advance and students were always treated fairly and respectfully. One possible reason for this is that Dr. White really isn't that much older than alot of her students, which is a nice change from the stereotypical old stuffy professor who has been teaching for years and probably bored to death. Dr. White is down to earth, easily accessible, and willing to sit down and talk with you as PERSON and not as some prof looking down on the lowly student. One nice part of the class was a visit to the Academy of Sciences and a field trip to some coastal fossil remains. I'm not sure how she works in these field trips during the fall and spring semester when each class may be no more than an hour or so. I took this class over the summer where each class was 3 hours long. Tests and assignments were not too difficult, as long as you come to class and take good notes. Her reader is well organized, with space for note-taking. Tests were mostly multiple choice scantron, with a few essay questions. I highly recommend this class for those looking to satisfy GE. It's not an overly difficult course, but you can still come away learning something. Dr. White teaches the class as GE, and not as if the class body is full of future geologists. But her enthusiasm of the subject makes it interesting. If there was a down part, it would only be that the summer lectures (3 hours each day) were a bit long sometimes, but Dr. White did a fine job of consolidating the material and getting a semester's worth done in 3 weeks.

Professor white was interesting, organized, and clearly knows what she's taking about. I learned a lot in her class and still use that knowledge, even though I am not involved in the sciences. She seems very invested in helping students learn. The tests were reasonable and showed that she was in touch with where students were with their studies. There was also a project that was pretty interesting and creatively conceived. I recommend her highly, and I also recommend Karen Grove, whom I took for the lab portion of this class.

Dr. White is one of the best teachers I ever had. I think she sets the standard for all teachers; I wish they could all be like her. I needed a GE credit and approached this class with a certain trepidation, however after the first class session, all concerns were squelched. The history of the world and universe is a completely fascinating topic and Dr. White's enthusiasm increases it ten-fold. She provides ample opportunity to get an A; just keep up with attendance and notes. If she could teach EVERY class I needed and took me out on the trips and excursions she goes on, I would change my major immediately.

Dr. White is a fantastic professor!! She really knows what she's talking about and she can really get it across to the students. Her tests always come with a study guide ahead of time and they are about 30 questions. There is some homework but it really isn't that hard to do. As long as you keep up with the material, you will whiz by. Dr. White is the first person to ever get me interested in Science (a subject I absolutely hate.) She is friendly and helpful whenever you ask her questions. If you've ever wondered why the sky is blue, what makes the ocean blue, or why we have earthquakes, take Oceanography with Dr. White. You are sure to find out all those unanswered questions.

Professor White is very articulate. She is always clear on what she wants us to do. She doesn't give any misleading details or facts that will confuse us. She is also very helpful in any ways. A student wouldn't be shy or scared to come to her for help because she has that friendly voice and gestures. What I like most about her is that she is considerate for those students who try so hard to get a better grade. As long as you show up for class and do the best you can to finish all the works she wants you to do, you would be fine. i definitely recommend her to any students who would want to take a fun and exciting Oceanography lab. She is definitely one of the best professors in the University -- her and Professor Karen Grove (Dept. Chair of some Science). they both deserve a raise!!!
