While Dr. Whitney is prompt for class, and offers bountiful amounts of extra credit, these regretfully are the only plusses I can find in his instruction. Dr. Whitney holds his classes in "elementary school" format, allowing one student to answer questions at a time while the other 24 sit around doing nothing. It's quite easy to lose interest in the lecture. Dr. Whitney's exams are difficult to say the least. He poses questions which require critical thinking, and don't always come from the text or lecture. Also, if you have absolutley no experience in the Hospitality Industry, you're screwed. He's fair, but if you kiss his butt, he'll give you the extra credit you think you deserve.

although he is a good teacher, he gives too much assignment and complicated. students can't understand what he wants for these assignment! he asks questions one by one in the classroom. if the student who is not questioned by him, who just does something else... and questions are not fair because for some student who doesn't have work experience can't answer the question that is not on the textbook!

Dr. Whitney is a good teacher. He gives student plenty of chances to receive extra credit. I must complain about his exams though. They are in essay format, and we only have an our of time to finish it. I would say, although I didn't pass JEPET, that JEPET was easier to take than his exams.
Overall, I would still recommend Dr. Whitney to students. Just answer his question with simple answers, because he's really asking simple questions (though they may sound difficult).

While Dr. Whitney is a great instructor, he tends to hold his clectures in a very "grade school" format. Each student is asked a question, and given an opportunity to answer for trivial points, each meeting. This leaves the rest of the class, those not answering questions at the time, bored and allows them to stray to other activities. His questions do, promote critical thinking, and this is somewhat rewarding. when it comes to exams, as stated in previous reviews, studying is not usually of much help. Dr. Whitney's exams are frequently difficult, and questions are very vague, not giving the student much to work with. All in all, he's a good instructor, but you really have to double-time it when it comes to his exams.

He is nice as an instructor. He is prepared for every class, and he is always on time. His lectures are also not bad, but the only problem is his exams. His exams are in essay format and are very unique. What I mean by unique is, only he will know the answers to his questions while many students struggles on his exams and eventually time runs out. His exams are open book and open notes, but it is not going to do much or any help at all. I guess you have to very creative and imaginery kind of person to do well in his exams. Studying isn't going to do the trick in his class.
