Ilmi Yoon

Dr Yoon is a very smart person with a lot of accomplishments. I have total respect for her and I recommend her as a teacher to anyone. Personally, I think she is an easy teacher. She does have a strong accent and you probably won't understand anything on the first day, but if you just go to class and follow the lectures, you'll adjust fine! Some students don't understand her on the first day and automatically give up on her and the class- don't be one of those!! She's really not that bad- just give her a chance (like the last review said).

EXAMS I had her for both CSc 210 and 310. I cut a lot of classes- lectures, but went to all the reviews. The tests are not easy but she'll give you sample exams that are practically identical to the real thing! Don't miss the reviews and know the sample exams!

PROJECTS From what I hear, her 310 projects are easier than Hsu's! I had Hsu for ENGR 356 and I believe it! I don't think she demands as much and she is lenient with time and extensions for the due date. Actually, overall, I hear she's much easier and recommended over Hsu. As with most CS classes, it's good to have friends. It's easy to make those little common mistakes that are hard to catch with assembly language and it's a real time saver if your buddy made the same mistake and already found the fault!

LECTURES Dr Yoon is different and respectable because she just really wants her students to learn. She totally encourages questions and comments but often goes off on a tangent and talks to one student instead of the entire class. Most students in the class don't care about the stupid question that the idiot in the front row asked- and they get upset that Yoon is easily distracted. But in another perspective, she'll try her best to answer your question instead of blowing you off or telling you to "just go to her office hours" just so that she can finish her lecture. You know we all hate those prof's too! But honestly, when she loses focus on the lectures, so do the students.

Anyway, I really recommend this teacher. She actually has a caring side, I think she's easy but I know others disagree. Just give her a chance. Don't judge her on the first day... take her!

She is getting better in front of the classroom. Very understanding teacher, but sometimes is a little hard to understand her lectures. She is good if you give her a chance.
