I'm currently enrolled in Prof. Yuen's Acct 504 class and I think he is a great teacher. Some students may find him to be a bit loud and doesn't like to get so many handouts, but I think it's a great thing that he does. Honestly a teacher that gives you notes is the best thing, it really helps to narrow down exactly what he's focusing on. I personaly don't think he speaks too loud, their are so many teachers that speak too soft. He's a very knowlegable teacher who's been in the field of accounting for a long time. His jokes are only ones that accountants can really understand and laugh about, people that don't...will certainly one day. He's an all around nice guy too, which is nice to have in class. Just go to class copy the notes, go over the handouts and do the homework assignments and you should be fine. He's very specific on what he wants you to remember, so it helps to clarify what should be studied on. Good luck to those taking his class, I look forward to taking him for a few other accounting classes

Professor Yuen comes on time, prepared with notes, and ends promptly. He is VERY ORGANIZED. He may talk a little loud and move rather quickly, but class time is well spent. You have to memorize everything because you can't use notes...bummer! However, as long as you completely understand his notes and the homework problems, you should be okay.

I did not like this teacher at all!!!! I agree with all of the BAD comments posted above. First of all, he barely uses the book. Instead, he handwrites his own notes, projects them on the overhead, and expects you to understand them. And yes, he doesn't even explaing what he is teaching by giving definitions or anything, but just goes straight into examples that he made up.
For the tests, he doesn't even allow a note card for formulas. He is very unreasonable and would not even listen to student's concerns or suggestions. He always thinks he's right even when he's not.
You can tell that he is not a good teacher because for the first test, nearly half of the class failed !!! Listen to me, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER... he is a horrible instructor I do not now where they get teachers!

Professor Yuen is a good teacher. His lectures are like the easy guide through the book. If you read the book at least once or twice, all you have to read when the exam date is close are his lectures (very helpful). To do better on the exam, do the homework and you'll do very well. If you want to pass this class, you have to pay attention to it from the very beginning because the finals is 50%.

Well, I think Prof Yuen did the best he could with the size o class he had (very big), and the amount of time he had to teach it (very little). He uses transparencies throughout the whole semester to teach and basically all you do during class is copy down the notes from the transparancies. Because of this, you don't even have the time to understand what he's trying to say during the lecture. Even though he went through the material really fast, we still didn't get through all of it by the end of the semester! Personally, I didn't rely very much on him. I just read the textbook and did his homework (which you dont have turn in) and in the end I got an A. He does 3 exams, two midterms(25% and 25% of grade) and a final (50%). Hes not very approachable during class but he answers all your questions if you go to his office hours. He also has a pretty likeable personality, but sometimes his jokes arent reallly that funny.

This class is o.k. if you attend most of the lectures and do the homework that the Professor assigned. The slides are kind of dull, but it is really effective tool for a class of 40+ students. What I find challenging is the Exams. No matter how hard you study or smart you are, you will sweat it to the very last question... muhahahha!!!

Its hard to decipher the fake ones from the real reviews, but this review is legit... I can probably say, that this teacher doesn't have it all together, but I did do the homework and studied for the first examination... The funny thing is I used process of elimination on half of the final and i almost got an A, LOL, although more than half the class got D's or lower(he passes out a grade list).

Prof. Yuen's managerial accounting class was a waste of my time. I wanted another teacher, but his section was the only one that had open seats. What I hated about his style was that he used slides during his lecture. I felt that this was ineffective, not to mention distracting. All we did the whole time was copy what was on the projector slides. He didn't take the time to explain what the concepts meant. It is sad, because I walked away from his class not having learned anything.
Yuen's class is not at all challenging nor is it stimulating. It's very easy to do well in this class. Although, I have to warn you that his final exam is comprehensive and is worth 50% of your grade. Memorization is the only skill you'll need. Just be prepared to be bored out of your mind!!!

This instructor is super hard. His test are hella hard. He gives you a bunch of basically math problems that he so call goes over in class. Most of the time he said if you do the homework you will do good on his tests, WROOOOOOOOONG. I did all the homework and for some reason always got D's on his damb tests.
His lectures are super boring which makes it even harder to learn the material. The book is not understandable and makes no sense.
He doesn't grade on a curve which messes up your grade even more, because if he did then most would pass his class. Check this out on his first test half the class got F's and he said that would be the easiest test of the three he was giving us.
Don't take hime he is hella hard.

Professor Yuen is very straighforward about what he expects, and what is required from you in the classroom. All of his lectures are on transparencies, which makes the material easier to learn. All of his homework assignments directly relate to what he teaches in class, and what he tests his students on. He is always available during his given office hours, and reschedules if he must miss them. He is very fair with his grading, no curves. He has two midterms worth 25% of your grade which covers two to four chapters and a final exam worth 50% of your grade which covers approx. 8-9 chapters. If you do the homework and show up for class, you can definately pass the class. His class did take me back to high school, but was definately a learning experience. I thought his stories were funny, and cute. They kept the class entertained.

A dry lecture and boring teacher. The trick to passing this class is do the homework and go to class. Screw the accounting lab! They don't help very much (except for the homework answers which are crucial). During his lecture, he tells you exactly what he will be asking on the test (if you pay attention). Still, the test is very hard and a bit tricky. He organizes ACT101 into his own version of formulas. It'll either be easier or harder for you to understand. Do the homework or else you will fail. And a good tip: you can find his notes on www.versity.com under the '99 fall semester. Just keep in mind that the notes don't tell you when he gives you direct quotes on what's on the test. The website only gives copies of his overhead notes. Good luck!

Very straightforward professor. Everything is built on outlines (handouts) and his overheads. If you transcribe the overheads, you'll do well. I only used the textbook once or twice for clarification -- could've gotten away with not buying it! The exams aren't difficult if you pay attention -- before exam day, he points out the topics that will be emphasized.

Yuen comes in with his overhead slides...Talks the whole time and doesn't really do a good job of explaining the material...And the stories about the good ol' days at Longs Drugs is quite annoying...If I didn't have the book and the Accounting lab, I don't think I would have made it in the class.

Professor Yuen is an excellent teacher. His lectures are easy to follow and his exams are pretty much based on his lectures. If you attend class everyday, it is a guaranteed A for you. I recommend him to anyone who is going to take ACCT 100 or any other courses that he's teaching.

I am currently enrolled in Professor Yuen's Governmental Accounting class. The lecture is clear, easy to understand. The main points are repeated so that students get a clear idea of the main points. Professor Yuen makes a great effort to make sure students understand the lecture materials. Although the exams are a little bit challenging, the exams also reflected what you have really learned other than just giving you a grade for cramming the night before. I would suggest Professor Yuen is one of the better professors in accounting at the university.

I am taking Accounting 100 class with professor A.Yuen. I expect myself having a B grade, but this B is expected not because I learnt much stuff from the professor, but because I rely on my book and memorize all the lectures and the book itself. As far as I know, most people shop for professor Yuen because his exams are easy. It might be fair, but I don't think it is fair about grading. Professor Yuen has 2 midterms and one final. 25%, 25% and 50% might be a fair grading, but first midterm can not be only 3 chapters, second midterm again only 3 chapters and final 8 or 9 chapters. Professor Yuen doen't listen to studen't questions properly. he listens only to first 2 words and gives bunch of answers. I wouldn't suggest a confusing professor to others. I don't know why people shop for him. choose expensive one, (hard)but the one that has a quality!!! I paid 700+ for this class and I don't want to have B. there isn't extra credits, there isn't even a homework. the book doesn't even have answers on the back. it is an accouning!!! Every time i have to go the freaking lab... copy card... limited hours only (30 minutes). what can you learn during 30 minutes??? thanks
