knows his stuff but can't teach it

he is a horrible teacher. explanations consist of the same examples of the same graphs about hot dogs and hamburgers. his way of teaching makes it hard to put into context when asked to on the tests.

Take the class for down and dirty micro/macro Econ

Very smart and funny guy. He has a tendency to go off on tangents, he was never on time, and we didn't finish the text (Tucker). Be that as it may, since it is only a survey course, you will learn the basics of micro and macro. It takes a bit of work, but it was a relatively simple 'A'.

Great teacher

A little hard to understand at times, cause of his accent , but he generally expresses ideas clearly. Reasonable exams and assignments, and you'll learn what u need to learn about microecon. I recommend him.

lot of first hand experiance

entertaining teacher. he has been all around the world and seen the countries that he is talking about, and has worked for organizations such as the world bank. the class was fairly easy, though the tests were surprisingly harder than what i expected from his lectures. he does tend to go off subject at times in the sense that he will tell us a story about a developing country (just ask him about sudan) while explaining something about economic development. i thought this was very entertaining, and talking about specific things he has experienced and seen reminded me that what he was teaching was no just theory, but applies to the real world. unless you are the kind of person that wants to stick to the book, i recommend this teacher. A very smart and experienced man. Also quite funny.

Good man, so-so professor

I have no idea how I got a B in this class. Although he is a nice man, he does a poor job of relating the material to the exams. He knows his stuff, just doesnt know how to teach it real well. 2 Exams were short answer and final was multiple choice.

An average teacher

This teacher is an extremely intelligent person, but unfortunately for the students I do not believe that he is very skilled at transferring that knowledge on. He grades all his tests, most of which border impossible, on curves. This is terrible because it only motivates you to do better then the others in your class and does not encourage your retention of the study of economics. Zahedani is a funny guy but I feel he has lost, or perhaps never had, any joy of teaching a GE class like macroeconomics. If you are looking for a headache and a C in econ than take this teacher

Pardon the rambling....

Sadly, Professor Zahedani just doesn't do it for me. I was expecting a FABULOUS teacher based on the reviews here, but unfortunately, I'm quite disappointed. Let's put it this way: I think Professor Zahedani is not THAT effective of a teacher. When he draws things on the board, sometimes, he goes too fast and the graphs end up looking a bit jumbled. Also, his lectures are confusing and boring at times. (He doesn't have a boring personality, though.)

Anyway, it's true -- his tests are HARD. Humility aside, I'm usually an 'A' student but no matter how hard I tried to study for his exams, I kept messing up big time! I can honestly say that the 1st midterm he gave us was the CRAZIEST, most impossible test that I've ever taken in my life! There were way too many questions to answer for the amount of time we were given. (a bunch of short answer questions and drawing graphs)

For our 2nd midterm, Prof. Zahedani decided to give us a multiple choice test that was supposed to be "unbelievably easy," according to him. (He must have gotten some flak from students regarding the 1st midterm.) But lo and behold, the 2nd test was NOT easy at all. Although it was only a scantron test, it was so tricky. A few of the "multiple" choices sounded like the exact same thing said over again, if you get what I mean. Ok..so Prof. Zahedani does follow the book pretty closely but come exam time, his homeworks don't seem to help as much as you think it would/should. We'll just see if I change my opinion about him and the class by the end of the semester. I'll update this review if ever.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U P D A T E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The final Prof. Zahedani gave us was not comprehensive, but it covered a lot of chapters. He was supposed to give us a test similar to the 1st midterm but at the last minute, he decided to give us a scantron final instead. Thank goodness. I can't say the final was easy, however. Like the rest of his multiple choice tests, the MC final was very tricky.

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT, THOUGH. I thought I pretty much messed up on all of his tests and quizzes but miraculously, I ended up with a good grade. How I got an A- for the class is totally beyond me, but I admit I'm so relieved. He really does grade on a BIG curve, afterall. If anything, I guess that would be the redeeming factor of the class/prof.

Great job Zahedani!

Zahedani was such a great teacher that I am taking him again next semester for ECON101. If you are looking for a teacher who will enhance your learning then look no further. His lectures follow the book closely so all you have to bring to class is the book, a highlighter, and a pen to write a few notes in the margin. He is clear and presise in his explanations. He breaks up any monotony with stories and jokes as well. I'd recommend this guy to anyone!

This is the Econ teacher for you.

Great teacher. He makes economics come alive. I liked the way he made concepts simple and understandable. Very available during office hours and open to questions in class. Lectures are organized and each class starts with a review of material from the previous lecture.

If you know all the material in his thorough reviews, you will do fine on the tests. Grades are curved anyway. Spring 2001 semester, tests were a combination of graphs and scantron.

You will enjoy this professor.

Zahedani is great!

ZAHEDANI IS A GREAT PROFESSOR. HIS TESTS ARE PRETTY CHALLANGING, BUT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS IN THE BOOK. READ IT CAREFULLY!! THERE IS A LOT TO REMEMBER, BUT HE EMPHASIZES SPECIFIC TOPICS YOU NEED TO LEARN. I TOOK HIM FOR BOTH ECON 100 AND 101 IN ONE SEMESTER. FOR EACH CLASS HE GAVE US TWO MID-TERMS AND ONE FINAL, HARDLY ANY HOMEWORK (BUT THEY WERE ALL EASY) AND PROVIDES SOME EXTRA CREDIT POINTS. DON'T STRESS TOO HARD IF YOU GET BAD GRADES FOR YOUR EXAMS, HE'LL CURVE THEM AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER. HE HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, HIS LECTURES WERE VERY INTERESTING, DESPITE THE ACCENT (WHICH WAS NOT EVEN AS BAD AS THE OTHERS HAVE PUT IT). TAKE HIM, HE'S COOL! JUST DON'T FORGET TO READ THE CHAPTERS.

I think this teacher knows what he is talking about. He is a great teacher that knows his stuff. He could be confusing at times, but you'll understand it after a while. His tests consists of 5-6 questions which are worth a lot of points. His tests are hard, but it's everything he goes over in the class and some in the book which he stresses about a lot. He grades on a good curve so even when you think you did bad, it's not as bad as you think. He tries to add jokes to his lectures that aren't half bad.

Hes an entertaining man, what else can I say? His lectures are a bit scattered, but as he says, it IS all in the book. When taking his class rememeber these few things...

1) He DOES NOT give scantron exams. 2) He can get a little confusing when he speaks, as his accent is thick. 3) Only copy his graphs off the board, everything else, bring your book and highlight. 4) Even though his tests are hard, he grades on a curve that could make even the worst student happy. I think he actually understands that economics isnt one of those subjects that tickles everones fancy.
