LECTURES: Instructor didn't seem not very knowledgable about art history, but she makes this an art history class. Her lack of expertise led her to repeat the same stories about her father's murals several times. I certainly learned a lot from the lectures, but would have learned just as much in 1/4 the time if the lectures had been better organized and less repetitive. Then the other 3/4 of the time could and should have been spent on other material -- SF history, geography, ethnic communities, current arts and letters, a trip to the Ballet... The guest lecturers were very good and showed what the class could be. TEXTS: One excellent book saved the class. "Reclaiming San Francisco" is great. Read it and don't bother taking the class. The three other required books were also good. ASSIGNMENTS: Pretty easy, took maybe 10-15 hours over the course of the semester.
